  • I had gout. The most pain you can imagine. Like a freshly broken bone day and night with no relief. I was weak, tired, lethargic. I got up in the morning wishing it was bedtime. Dreading the day ahead. I cut sugar. Went through a terrible withdrawal. Its hard. Its a drug. I came though strong as a bull. At the end of the day, after a hard day of work, I feel fresh physically as if I just got up in the morning. My mind is fit and clear like never before. I eat out sometimes. I have carbs. But I avoid all processed sugar as much as possible.

My granpa and granma were great at cooking. He passed away at 92 and she at 93. They used to add loads of fat and protein in their cooking, but were still lean. I'll always remember what my granpa said "Fat doesn't make you fat but sweets do"

Over 40 years ago, I followed the Atkins Diet which, in retrospect, was the original Keto diet. He advised about the dangers of sugar and simple carbs. I lost weight and most importantly have eliminated those 'poisons' from my diet. I'm in my 80's and have not been sick in over 40 years and am not on any medications. Thank you Dr. ATKINS .

I like what prof Robert said here“ I’m not against the food industry making money; I am against the the food industry making money by selling things that hurt people”
  • @mijreed
I've dropped ALL added sugar from my diet the past 2 months. Literally nothing. No processed food that has added sugar, etc. Nothing. Suddenly my joints have stopped hurting. Fruit tastes absolutely delicious now. I have way more energy. Etc.
  • It's incredible that these documentaries are free and so easily available. Every one that I see, I say "This should be shown in all schools"

When I started my diet 3 months ago I finally realized added sugar is in legit everything. Naturally occuring sugar is fine but food without "added sugar" is almost hard to find foods without
  • My first job I was a lifeguard and worked with a 67 year old woman who was as fit as me at 16. She was always full of life and energy but I remember thinking her "diet" was so weird because she didn't eat sugar or any processed foods

I stopped eating sugar 6 weeks ago, I have lost 8kg so far, a lot of the pain in my body seems to have disappeared, I had stomach issues that seem to no longer be bothering me. I have heaps of energy and my brain feels clearer, I sleep better and I really don't even crave the sweet stuff anymore. Never ever going back to a life of eating sugar constantly.
  • As a parent, this topic hits close to home. It's crucial to ensure our kids have access to healthier food options and understand the impact of what they eat.
  • I’ve worked in an NHS mental health hospital for several years now and it never ceases to amaze me the appalling lack of knowledge and awareness medical professionals such as doctors and nurses have when it comes to the link between nutrition and health. The dementia and neuropsychiatry wards are particularly bad where patients who have fasting bloods of 7- 8, and after eating 12-13 is seen as normal and of no concern. I find it ironic that diabetic patients (which there are many) are not allowed to have sugar in their drinks but yet are permitted to eat as much toast, beans, potato, cereal, pasta, rice as they like. I once voiced my concerns about this with a senior nurse, who simply shrugged her shoulders whilst telling me there’s very little sugar in bread, rice or pasta so it was fine. I couldn’t believe this highly experienced nurse didn’t have a clue how carbs are processed in the body. For a second, I was tempted to inform her that these carbs are converted into glucose by the liver causing huge blood sugar and insulin spikes. I thought better of it. My words would’ve almost certainly fallen on deaf ears. Just the other week I witnessed a nurse encouraging a diabetic patient to eat some toast before they go to bed as their bloods were too low 5.8. I couldn’t quite believe what I was seeing. After the toast her bloods shot up to 12! The nurse was happy with this and allowed her to go to bed. Many patients are encouraged to eat three meals per day plus snacks and supper which include pudding after every meal (usually cake and custard). toast, and copious amounts of biscuits. Many patients who’s bloods are too low (5-6 range) for their insulin shots are encouraged to eat several biscuits so they can get their shot. Patients who refuse meals as they’re simply NOT HUNGRY are regularly bullied into submission and virtually force fed. Nurses and staff go into a blind panic thinking that missing a meal or two will somehow have a detrimental effect. For those who don’t cave into the pressure it’s not long before the Ensures (full of sugar) are being pushed upon them. It’s a farce. As a result of this appalling lack of understanding around nutrition many patients pile on the weight, and their condition deteriorates rapidly. Many patients are on a whole cocktail of drugs which seem to have very little positive effect whatsoever. In fact, I’m convinced many suffer detrimental side effects as a result. This is an NHS hospital where patients are supposed to come to get better. It’ a sad state of affairs! What the heck is going on!?

My dad lived to 90. He ate healthy- real food. Grown his own vegetables etc. he was never heavy, took no meds and no Alzheimer’s. The man was a walking miracle considering he smoked for 50 years. Stay away from all packaged food. My mom eats a lot of processed food and she is overweight and on 30 meds a day at age 78. Health is not good. That’s enough for me to know better.
  • @ohiphotopro
It is worse in the US, because instead of sugar everything contains high fructose corn syrup. Hard to find a product that does not.
  • @idkjusthere-0
I quit eating so much sugar since last month and when I got my period I had almost no cramps! That was so eye opening, hopefully I can continue eating like this. I love these documentaries
  • I started eating real food about 2 months ago. Lost 20 pounds and lots more to go. I feel great. I still struggle with sugar cravings, but I like the way I feel, and I don't want to compromise my health anymore.
  • @mickeydougal
I can't help thinking, hearing Katherine Rich blame consumers' choices for the epidemic of obesity and related health problems, how much she sounds like a drug pusher blaming the addict for the insane profits she makes. Robert Lustig was the "voice crying in the wilderness," but now is joined by Pradip Jamnadas and many others. Thank you, Nigel, for making this documentary. I don't have kids, but seeing those babies having their teeth extracted brought tears to my eyes.
  • @Jakster840
That food industry rep was absolutely INSUFFERABLE. These companies spend BILLIONS in advertising to influence customer behaviors and then absolve themselves of any culpability by saying "no one is forcing you to eat this or put this in your cart/trolley".
  • @kernowarty
The most shocking thing about this video is that he revealed he is 46! He looks at least 60!
  • Fresh meat, raw veggies, and fresh, raw fruit only. Water only. One meal a day. Walk every day. You will drop the weight.
