imagine a character has the most destructive, heart shattering, mind crushing, impressive, sanguinare, hellish, diabolical, evil, wretched domain expansion in the campaign and he nevers gets to activate it but that one specific time he does every enemy knows what's coming

JJK: “The system is so cool, they feed off their negative emotions!” The Sith: “Bonjour”
  • @iMac_because
I imagine a fighter just saying stuff like Domain Expansion: BOXING RING 🥊

I have a paladin who throughout the course of a few years went from a stoic, standard paladin, to a tree hugging halfwit, reminiscent of SpongeBob. I would love to drag enemies into some trippy owl bear themed domain for him, as he ended up as the god of forrests and owlbears

Funnily enough, I implemented Domain Expansions (and a counterpart to domains, fitting in with the lore of my campaign) into my campaign not too long ago. Maybe a month or two after I first did so, your first video on DnD Domain Expansions popped up in my recommendations. You're doing great stuff man, keep up the good work!

Bro really just called Gojo an antagonist. XD

It's funny that i played JRPGs and RPGs my whole life but never thought of adding a skill tree to DnD. Loved the concept and will certainly try.

Love the idea of Domain expansions in D&D. Since cursed energy originates from negative emotions, domain expansions have some great potential for RP if we design them to reflect the caster's innermost turmoil / trauma. Going to use the backstory of a friend's PC, black dragonborn paladin called Vapetiesh. Orphaned when an a catastrophe wrecks his village, the young Lizardfolk is pulled from the rubble and indoctrinated into a cult that venerates a "great serpent" trapped "deep beneath the tree". Spending years alongside other orphans "rescued" by the cult, he hunts, trains, feasts, and sleeps alongside his "brothers and sisters". Once this "batch of candidates" grow strong enough, they are brought to the culling chambers for their "communion". 30 days in a lightless tomb with no food or water, only one candidate emerges out of the group. He is presented with "the serpent's blood" changing his body from the inside and "one of its fangs" as a weapon. As for the domain expansion, one could design it as the culling chamber itself, trapping all targets within. Similar to compelled duel, it could enforce a wisdom save to attack the nearest target. Could also go with an anti-heal effect, where the only way to recover health would be to consume the flesh of an opponent trapped inside. Could give it a necromancy effect where any creatures killed in the domain can be called upon as ravenous undead. Could also go deeper into the devouring aspect and straight up make it rain acid in there. So many ways to make it gnarly and over the top. Edit: still haven't finished the video so I don't yet know what each node does. Just going off the vibes until I read into the docs.
  • One of my first DMs had a domain system before JJK even came out (very different, but had the same name and general idea). My character was a fallen lich named Mori (adventurer turned lich that got killed then brought back with missing memories), and his domain was called the Labyrinthian Library. Important to know beforehand, he gained blood manipulation abilities after a big character moment that was a huge part of his moveset moving forward. All of the information he had ever learned was somewhere in the pages of his library. If his blood is inside any book in a specific hallway, he can choose to start warping the space in his domain. Essentially, he can mark books to make infinite loops, shortcuts, or completely block off parts of his domain. He also had an ability that allowed him to, when using his spellbook and a sample of a mage’s blood, copy/steal their style of magic. He used this with a mummy to create a massive sandstorm, and with a phantom/illusionist to make phantom duplicates of himself all throughout the domain. I plan on running my own campaign soon, and I’m using his style of domain in it. I have a couple players that like JJK, and I told them that this would be very different than what they’re used to from domains.

the curse energy is based on negative emotions. The most logical thing is to make your cursing technique an ironic aspect of your existence. Example. My life always falls into the reverse choice, as if I am always wrong. If we had to base it on anything, it would be a 50/50 chance where my first choice is always the wrong one. With that aspect in mind, I will say that my curse technique will be based on the inverse of probability. In simple terms, the inversion creates a logical scenario with a 50/50 probability where the one that its choose by the user will never happen. The scenario cannot be controlled at will since it can only be applied in 50/50 congruent situations. And the domain, would be call the Reverse Frog Temple, a place where every thought is reversed, making it extremely difficult for people within the domain to make congruent decisions. The maximun output of this technique is a simple domain where an aspect of reality can be altered by applying its reverse effect being active as long as the simple domain is and the effects of altered aspect would only be apply in the domain. Finally, the best part of this technique probably is the reverse curse technique because it just disables your cursing technique lol. The best use would be to faint if the user knows the curse technique well and you need to apply a more unpredictable strategy since it is a requirement that you have said out loud a 50/50 prediction for it to work. but with the reverse technique it is a random chance, which makes it useful. This cursing technique has a terrible side effect and that makes you lose all the bets you do even written or spoken. The only way to temporarily nullify the effects is with the reverse curse technique being active.

I'm actually so glad someone out there is making the content you do.
  • One of the Divine artifacts within my world allows for the creature attuning to it to create a domain. This video is helpful in designing rules around it

So, I’d like to try to explain what my character’s domain would be His name is pebble, he’s a scribes wizard There are two ways I’d imagine his domain would work Either it’s a labyrinth that is a large library, that is huge through the size node Or it’s an anti domain, but as a wizard I don’t know if the possibility of me not casting is worth it
  • What i love about these skill trees is that you alway's add your own touch to the tree itself. It would've been so much easier to just copy paste the effects of domains we've already seen, but instead you added your own custom ability's to the tree and i think it's so much better for that reason.
  • @zerozeroninesix
Been implementing your domain system in a campaign I'm in, excited for this video
  • I don’t have any domains in my own JJK monk subclass, but has its own Black Flash/divergent fist mechanic. When landing a critical hit with an unarmed strike, the number of damage dice equals your wisdom modifier instead of just doubling, also your next attack(on the same turn) rolls with advantage(implying you reach 120%). If you’re rolling an attack with advantage, and BOTH d20s roll the same number, no matter what, multiply your damage dice by your wisdom mod, then multiply the damage by your proficiency bonus. Yes it’s broken, but rolling the same number twice is 1/400 chance.
