My progress over 10 days learning the main lick of G.O.A.T (GOAT) by Polyphia. This is one of the most unique tunes I've ever heard and really wanted to have a go at it. Mine's not perfect, but while I never thought I'd be able to play this song, it has showed me that if you keep trying you can get pretty close :)

Day 1 I learn the first 5 seconds of the song
Day 3 is the first time I can play the whole lick without stopping
Day 6 is when I have my first breakthrough
Day 8 is when I play at 90% speed
Day 10 I try at 100% speed

i love his expressions when he's playing it fast

If you're frustrated and can't figure out why you can't play it, here's your answer: You've never played anything like this before and your body needs to understand this song as well. Rest for a day and continue learning it.

was expecting you to turn into a scrawny neck tatoo'd white kid in a baggy hoodie and skinny jeans by day 10

This is literally the most HONEST COVER EVER simply because he gives direct audio from his guitar without any major editing or mixing/mastering and shows all of the sloppy progress which we all secretly knows exists when learning new songs or techniques. I bet at day 15 it was phenomenal
  • I love it when I realized, that at day ten that he successfully pulled the arpeggios of in the main riff perfectly, I instinctively smiled and so did he.

    Great job dude!
  • Why is Polyhpia popping up all over YouTube all of a sudden? This song came out a while ago

As a beginner, this is my eventual goal for this upcoming year. I WILL learn this song, even if it kills me!

This song has a certain feel to it like no other guitar song I've played before, and it's just amazing. I'm not as good as you, it's been 3 weeks or so, and I'm still trying to do the tapping, but that's amazing!

incredible dude! ive spent a lot of effort into this song but i was never able to nail the really fast arpeggio and i ended up putting this song to the side for a while. glad to see you nailing this
  • The fast arpeggio part is actually impossible to do it, can't seem to ever get it right, well I'll keep practicing.
  • I love when he smiles at the end of each one when he realizes he made progress. He's so adorable at that moment

Seriously, if the only problem you have after 10 days of trying a Tim Henson riff is a bit of drag, you’re 3 steps ahead of a doing just about alright.
  • It’s an amazing song hey! I’ve only learnt half the intro so far but it’s really groovy to play. You smashed it make good work!
  • @beatsandbosons
Really awesome to see someone brave enough to show their progress. Love how you smile when you start realising you're nailing it!
  • One fo the best feelings in the world as a musician...waking up the next day, practice and notice improvement :) well done man, I hope you didnt stop there and continue
  • The fact that you enjoy the journey pumps me up... Keep it up!
