The Hunger Games explained by an idiot

So about the dogs/muts. In the book, they have the hair and eyes from the dead tributes. So the one that almost attacks Katniss, has the hair and eyes of Rue, the little girl she was allied with. Which was why Katniss was hysterical and asking Peeta to kill it

Damn they really made a show based on the minecraft minigame. Crazy world we live in

The bread part is significant because Peeta purposefully burns the bread and then gets his ass beat raw by his parents so he can throw some food to Katniss who is stating to death in the rain.

(District 13 was known for Graphite Mining but it was secretly nuclear technology)

What pissed me off the most about the Hunger Games is that despite it literally being called "The Hunger Games", not a single eating contest was held. Ever. I mean, would it kill them to organize a speed-eating competition, but if you take too long you're fed to the sharks positioned right below you? And these people have the nerve to say they want entertainment

I did some research and the largest bucket of "industrial strength horse glue" I could find was 1 gallon. If we use ounces instead of gallons and toes being pedicured instead of full pedicures, we get 970 out of 1,536. Reduced, that equals about 6.3 out of 10, or 3.15 out of 5.

So the BREAD!! In the books, that was like.... A whole thing. Peeta, already in love with Katniss, clearly noticed she was starving outside. He knew that if he burnt some bread, he'd get his absolute ass whopped, but that he could toss it to her after since his parents weren't so badly off that they'd sit through burnt bread - they own a bakery btw, pretty much solely selling bread since there's a pretty slim access to sugar. So yeah. It was basically some very early foreshadowing that Peeta was willing to "sacrifice" himself for Katniss, which he proceeds to try to do for the whole book and two sequels. It also kinda shows off how much of a softie he is. He has some very, very strict morals for a kid, which are held in pretty high contrast to at least 70% of the other characters in the series, but in the third book especially as a contrast to Gale. Gale essentially commits what most people would call war crimes in the 3rd book, and is very unappologetic about it, which UPSETS Katniss. Like. A lot. He also kills Prim - he didn't target her specifically, but he was targeting Rebel First Responders which he decided to sacrifice to pin their murders on the Capital and Prim had become an EMT of sorts by then. Did his strategy work? Yes. Was it super fucked up and completely unforgiveable to Katniss when she found out? Also yes. Which is why she chose Peeta in the end, which is supposed to symbolize choosing peace and happiness over letting the horrors of trauma and war turn her into a sociopath.

as someone who's favorite books and movies are The Hunger Games, I loved this and I thought it summarized the movie better than any other channel I have seen

HIgh Boi is what the next generation's grandpas will sound like when describing movies from our time. High Boi is a man before his time, respect.

The districts are: 1. Luxury items for capitol (Rich ppl) 2. Masonry, Weapons (and recruitment of peacekeepers) 3. Technology (Kind of rich) 4. Fishing (Poor) - rest are poor 5. Power 6. Used to be graphite but now creates big boom stuff The bread was burnt so his mother said to throw it out/feed it to the pigs. It is later discovered he burnt the bread on purpose. They give her a high score in the book so that the other tributes will see her as a threat and hopefully kill her. If she (District 5 Girl) took the other packages, the tribute(s) who needed that package would go after her. She goes in while everyone else is watching and assessing the situation, and no one can go after her cause they would lose their package to someone else. I think the main thing I noticed. In the film, the games seem to last like.. maybe 5 or 6 days. In the book it lasts nearly 3 weeks

I read this book series as a kid and was so excited and then subsequently disappointed by the movies. Glad to see you do a video on this one.

The books were actually meant to be sort of sadistic, like Katniss never really could have a true happy ending. She fell in love to survive, not only because she loved Peeta. People were always in control of her, and I believe that Suzanne Collins wanted the characters to be a little different than typical main characters. I don't think she intended Katniss to be a "girl queen boss" or whatever some teenage girls like to call her, I think she was meant to be made like an example of surviving, and the strategical and crazy stuff you do to live. Edit: It's been a year later and Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes adaptation just came out. Haven't watched it yet, but I read the books and it is really interesting how Suzanne Collins portrayed Lucy Gray in the same light as she did for Katniss: falling in love to survive. However, Lucy Gray's lovelife with Snow seemed to represent Katniss if Katniss had not genuinely fallen in love for Peeta. Two similar love stories, two different endings. We already can tell that Snow sees Lucy Gray in Katniss through her songs, but we can also analyze the fact that Snow sees Lucy Gray in Katniss because both of the girls sought out survival through gaslit and decepitive relationships. How does the movie represent this? I've yet to know. I've seen some reviews but they are pretty ass reviews that don't describe the elements of the story at all except: "Snow is so hot", "Perfect example of toxic mascuilinity portrayed in a movie," "Moral of the story: if you dump your boyfriend he turns into a facist", etc. So... yeah all these reviews don't give any insights at ALL. I love the book franchise and loved the book but I'll just have to see if the movie lead up to the same satisfactory results I had for the book. (I slightly doubt it, however)
