I remember years ago in Florida people saying: "I can't evacuate!, I can't leave my stuff behind!"; Crazy!!. Or..."I can ride this one!, It will be ok". I know it is uncomfortable to evacuate, and pack your life in a suitcase; but man...life is more important.
  • “What this is basically showing us is that developers, if there’s money to be made, they will develop it,” said Stephen Strader, an associate professor at Villanova University who studies the societal forces behind disasters. “You have a natural wetland marsh … the primary function of those regions is to protect the inland areas from things like storm surge. You’re building on top of it, you’re replacing it with subdivisions and homes. What do we expect to see?”
  • Clean it up so we can start setting up our tents to enjoy the beautiful ocean for everyone now!

Any homes being built in Florida should be built up. There is no doubt that there will be more storms and they will become more severe. If I'm an insurer, I would say yes here's the money to rebuild, but know that if you build on a slab, you will not be able to insure your home.

Due to the ongoing insurance crisis Floridians now have the highest property-insurance rates in the nation, according to the industry-funded Insurance Information Institute. The average premium is $4,231 — nearly triple the U.S. average of $1,544. This has priced out hundreds of thousands of people from having insurance.
  • Home insurance cost is going to be even higher 😒😒 every time this happens they just raise their prices
  • I was in Fort Myers between June and July. My sister Malgorzata lives there. A beautiful village. Paradise on earth. Americans believe that you will rise. Poland was destroyed many times. two years. I wish you with all my heart strength and peace in rebuilding. You have a beautiful country of cool people. I have never met so many smiling people. Optimism beats from you. Take care of people and animals you will rise. After that you will come out even stronger!
  • There will be hundreds of fatalities. I don’t get it??!!! People keep saying oh it was going to Tampa.. did they not see the size of this thing?? Did they process that this thing was going to move slow??? Did they not see it was moving NNE? That meant it was riding up the coast!!!Perhaps, the hurricane category scale needs to be adjusted with a CAT 5 saying: you will die?? Perhaps the weather people should be more emphatic about leaving…I went through Andrew and Katrina in Florida. Ian was 3 x’s times worse just by it’s sheer size. Andrew was not a water event. I’m still on soflo and you don’t have to tell me twice!!! All these people had to do was drive East 30-40 miles and park at a Walmart or some parking lot. Just get away from the water!!!
  • This is not NOLA after Katrina. Beachfront property = Sandcastles ..boat captains need to learn hurricane prep from someone who cared for boats during K
  • Maybe when US buildings ditch wooden frames and dry wall and cheap tin roofs will the homes not blow down so easily. Bricks and morter seem to have been forgotten in most states. That is all…..out
  • I left Naples just about two years ago to move to Arizona to take care of my Mom during the pandemic. I'm so glad I stayed. My old apartment is currently still under water according to my old neighbors.
  • This reporter needs to take it down a couple notches. There's way to much enthusiasm in his tone. This is a very serious catastrophe.

I remember looking at property on the water. I could afford the property, but either the insurance was too expensive or they wouldn’t insure the house at all. I would never lived in an uninsured house.
  • We are seeing the apocalypse with our own eyes. Denial will not halt the inevitable. Only Love will take us home. ❤
  • I wonder if the homeowners would sue the insurance on those boats for destroying their homes. 🤔
  • I’ll tell you people who know nothing about weather who ignore the National Hurricane Center etc when they tell them to evacuate…infuriating and no excuse! It WAS widely circulated by EVERYONE just how bad the storm surge was going to be. Saying they didn’t know is ridiculous! I don’t want anyone dying and it’s heartbreaking to see the devastation but there is NO excuse for not evacuating!!!!
  • Houses in these areas should be built of pure concrete with terraced concrete roofs instead of shingle roofs.
