  • I used to get these cheap all the time in the 90s and put them back on the road. Three things usually take them off the road. The rubber intakes are almost always bad, the carbs need to be rebuilt if it's sat any length of time and the regulator rectifier.
  • Just got an 80 xs chopped custom low rider frame, engine, and a shitload of parts. Looking forward my new summer build!
  • I have a stock 79 project bike in rough shape, but the price was right. To get her running I did the following. 1. Thread chased the left spark plug hole, due to a bit of cross threading at the start of the hole. 2. New spark plugs, 3. New points, 4. New spark plug wire boots which fixed the running on one cylinder. 5. Carb cleaned and adjusted. Starts right. Was in a barn for 5 to 6 years. So far i have her running. Now to clean her up. Hope to see more of your friends build.

I've just been gifted a xs400. It's been left outside for a few years hopefully I'll be able to restore. Very excited
  • Awesome video and bike, can't wait to see more 👍 I've got one with same issues
  • I'm working on a friend's 80 xs400 and I am having the same issue. I look forward to see what you find.
  • Sounds like you're running on one cylinder. Try putting on new spark plug wires and a good spark plug boot like NGK
  • i have some stock springs if you wanna make it not hardtailed anymore.... and definitely don’t rev it that much without warming it up first lol

Looks like a 650 rear wheel and brake setup and maybe a 82+ 400 front wheel and brake setup. Definitely sounds like it needs carbs cleaned and synchronized unless the ignition timing isn't right
