He spent a ton of expensive chemicals, a lot of time and got a drop of gold.😐
  • It's awesome that someone did this whole process and recorded it for the world. Even if it's a crazy amount of work and not worth it, it's cool that people can know that now! +1
  • Was anyone else expecting one of them huge gold bars at the end you see in the movies 🤣 That seemed like a huge process for a tiny speck of gold 😒 Thanks for the upload though, interesting
  • 8:15 Neighbors from the top floor probably sometimes think, what the hell is going on in our city, it’s impossible to be on the balcony without a gas mask! 😃

Noooo less than one gram with all that material and hours of work? Totally insane, man...it absolutely doesn't make any sense: rummage through the waste like a beggar to collect a lot of heavy and bulky PCs, transport them, dismantle them, buy all that chemical rubbish and various equipment, breathe poisons for hours with the anxiety of doing something wrong, clean everything up and dispose of the waste. And all this mess and jumbles just for a paltry microscopic 0.85 of pure gold? If you find an honest gold buyer, they will pay you roughly close to $20. It's just not worth it!

I had always thought only the gold fingers contain gold, good to know RAM chips also have it. Out of the 0.84 g gold you got, any idea of how much is from gold fingers and IC chips respectively?
  • Cut the fingers off the ram and use HCl (copper 2 chloride) to remove gold foils. That gold will be almost 24k. Adding the sticks with lead, tin, copper, etc into aqua regia is not only a waste of acid, but makes the recovery less pure and increases waste solution. After recovering the foils from copper 2 chloride, THEN refine in aqua regia or bleach/hcl

People, chemists do recommend using protective gear for a reason, the fumes and the liquids involved in processes like this are not safe to play around in your usual kitchen and bathroom. Also use a calculator, butane torches, special glass containers and chemicals are much more expensive than what you'll obtain by selling the final extraction.
  • I keep watching these. I have lots of computer parts, just saving for now till gold prices climb. Think I'll leave the melting to people smarter than me and just sell the parts someday. Fun to watch though, thanks.

Must be a rental house. Washin that stuff down the sink

Quite straight forward. Less than 1 g per Kg is a typical yield from what I have observed. Many claim much more (up to 3g) but that seems to be the exception.0.8g is realistic, but there may have been quite some Pd as well which you lost in that procedure. That is why I would recover Ag and Pd first using HNO3 and then proceed to AR and dissolve the gold. I love that blender machine!
  • Good technique and good use of acids, I really like your blender too! 👍🏼

Crazy how some counties allow you to wash toxic waste down the sink...at least you made 40 bucks out of it.....

I’m pretty sure you used 2-4x more cost in the chemicals than you got back in gold. If you trim the gold fingers, you could use 1/10th of the chemicals. And I’d separate the gold foils first by sitting them in sulfuric acid first, then you’d only need a few drops of nitric to dissolve that. Never premeasure Aqua Regia. Cover in HCL then add a few ml of Nitric at a time until gold is dissolved, then you don’t even need urea since you only used enough nitric to do the job. Nitric is expensive, lowering the amount of that you use is the only way to maximize your cost of recovery.
