  • @Amadeusiom, I live in South Africa, Spar is generally more expensive then other retailers. I shop there when I need to be in and out in a hurry as its generally quiet and safer to shop with kids. Generally Spar also has a good quality bakery. For large shopping basket, I usually go to Checkers which is cheaper

Spar on island is run by Heron & Brearley who are also the largest brewery on island. Being an ex Spar retailer living on island for quite a few years I am really upset how they present their representation of Spar on island. James Hall and co Ltd (the supplying wholesaler in the U.K.) need to take them to task. The Coop on island is good but a bit too quick at putting up prices.

Co-op and Tesco use in IOM is different from across, heavy use of the offer cards. Tesco especially is scary without the club card reduction.
  • Frank can you do a comparison on meat? a pound of steak, lamb, minced beef, chicken, sausage, ham, etc, excellent video anyway mate and we cant wait to join you in April
  • @Manksview
The Isle of Man Government sets the retail price of fresh milk.
  • @-DC-
Lived IOM and Oxfordshire overall worked out rather similar between the two houses, IOM quality of life on the other hand is in a different league.
  • For stuff like bananas, an option is to always buy 5. Then have an autosum on the spread sheet where there is one column for price, one for weight, then you can work out the price per KG exactly. eg, 5 bananas cost 1.20 pound and weighs 800g so price per KG is 1.49. The formula is PPkg = TP / TW Where PPkg is the price per kg TP is the total price ($) TW is the total weight (kg) This should make life easier going forward. just buy 5 bananas and note the price and weight each time and compare the price per kg

Have you checked Shoprite prices for Sainsbury's products? Mark up varies but some items appear to be 50% more exoensive than Sainsbury's charge. So much for their claims to be competitive.
  • Is it worth doing a ferry to the mainland once a month or so? Obviously not an option for fresh goods but worth it for tinned and fried goods.
  • @Team-Zissou
Frank, how much does 12 pan de sal and a buko pie cost in IOM?
  • @TheManx3legs
A great breakdown but my Tesco bill on average 2022 was £97 this year £113 that beats the rate of inflation for 2022 Dec @ 7.4% @ 9.1 % overall prices here just keep rising, 20p for spaghetti up to 28p no matter is about 30% higher?? lets not include the % for fuel, gas or electric!! All blamed by covid lol!!
  • @carlwood9355
Hi Frank Energy cost have more than double in England, I pay 10.46p/kWh for gas and 34.23p/kWh for electric how does this compare to the I.O.M?
  • @hac129
