Welcome to the Porsche 911 S/T. Designed by Porsche as a present to itself on the 60th anniversary of the 911 (there’s 1,963 planned in honour of the birth year), the S/T revives a grand old name from 1969 when a 911 S was sprinkled with a touch of motorsport fairy dust to become the S/T - a fearsome competition car that did without the aid of big wings and hefty aero. A kind of beautiful Frankenstein’s monster, the S/T was a competition car, but not prolific.

The modern S/T follows the same path, though with much more modern vim. Mounted in the back is the naturally-aspirated, 521bhp 4-litre boxer from the GT3 RS coupled to that short-ratio manual (with shorter cogs than a GT3). There are no big wings bar a short Gurney flap on the electric rear spoiler, which itself doesn’t raise quite as high as other 911s. The rear-wheel steer system is ditched to save weight and complexity, and the bonnet, front wings, ‘cage, rear anti-roll bars and shear panel underneath are all carbon fibre. The wheels are centre-lock and magnesium, the glass thinned to shave precious pounds. Even the battery has been on a diet, and now consists of a lightweight race-style lithium-ion unit. Cobble all this together with the slim carbon bucket seats along with weight savings from the powertrain and clutch, and the S/T becomes the lightest production 911. With a kerbweight of 1,380kg, it’s 40kg lighter than a manual GT3 Touring.

There are plenty more facts and figures, and who better to show Top Gear magazine’s Tom Ford around the new Super 911 than the man behind it and the boss of Porsche's GT division, Andreas Preuninger.

This is what a modern BMW CSL should have been. Man, Porsche is absolutely killing it these days.
  • @ProjectJamesify
Porsche is one of the last manufacturers who actually understands driver's cars
  • @regachom1
Andreas just gets it. His dedication and focus to what he wants a car to deliver is incredibly apparent. He's invaluable to the company and a huge reason for it's commercial success with the GT P-cars. Cheers to Andreas and his team once again.

The way they have kept the rounded rpm and speed dials is the most impressive, everyone has gone mad on flat tablet design, especially Benz, they have kept to their goals over time and always succeed

Andreas Preuninger is the kind of guy every car manufacturer needs. I hope he stays for many more years because the cars he is putting out are amazing.

I don't understand how Porsche just keeps improving, they've been making the same car since the 60's and still manage to make new and exciting cars... Automotive Perfection
  • @DPCcars
Andreas Preuninger's approach to creating cars that feel unified and harmonious is a true testament to Porsche's dedication to their craft. It's not just about raw power or flashy features; it's about crafting a driving experience that resonates with enthusiasts on a deeper level. That level of cohesion and connection is what sets Porsche apart and keeps them at the forefront of the sports car world. Kudos to the entire team for consistently delivering such exceptional vehicles! 🚗🔥 #PorschePassion

Andreas Preuninger is as much a star of this show as that 911 S/T. The man actually understands what cars are for: To be enjoyed when driven and when looked at, all with 911 reliability. It's not all about the numbers! Keep doing what you're doing Andreas. Us petrolheads are rootin' for ya!
  • @bennsport
I love Andreas Preuninger's passion for what he does and the cars his team create. He's a great asset to Porsche and I hope he stays involved in the company for many more years to come.

If you thought 3 RS’ had crazy markups, imagine this….

I still don't think the 992 is quite the looker that the 991.2 or better yet the 997.2 is for the modern cars, but leaving that and the electric steering debate aside... what's not to like? This sounds like the ultimate 911. Almost a perfect sports car. The pin striped interior feels oh so right. I'll likely never have the chance to own one of these, but if I could have one I would in an instant. What a thing. Eagerly awaiting what the 992.2 ends up looking like and how they try to top this.
  • @TherealLorinser
Porsche never disappoints when they finally dropped another banger 911.
  • @Guido.Fawkes.1
This is seriously as close to perfection as any company has ever achieved. Absolutely stunning and sublime to drive.
  • @waltersilva857
Definition of perfection nowadays! Awesome job Andreas!
  • @unknownvinnumber
This is literally the perfect machine. Absolutely love it! And damn did they hit it spot on with a manual too.
  • @nathanhagerman9928
This is the 911R of this generation, the car that brought manuals back to Porsche's GT car lexicon. It is also now the most alluring package Porsche sells, according to me. Fewer gadgets and gizmos, less weight, less flash, but more involvement than any other modern Porsche on sale. That is also to say, more involvement than almost every modern car on sale today, period. Thanks Andy.
  • @kraenk12
My new favourite 911…what a gem!
  • @mikesav9
One of the biggest admiration for the Porsche brand that I have is not only their attention to engineering detail, but also the way they preserve and honor their sacred racing and manufacturing history.
