TV show's most outstanding 1977 performances are combined in one hi-def video. Featured musical acts performed live, which was unusual since most television appearances during the era showed performers lip-synching to prerecorded music. The American late-night musical variety TV series was originally broadcast from NBC Studios in Burbank, CA on NBC during the 1970s and early 1980s.

The program premiered as a special on August 19, 1972, then began its run as a regular series on February 2, 1973; its last episode was on May 1, 1981. The 90-minute television musical program followed the Friday night edition of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.

The 70 was truly an amazing time to live. You had to be there to believe it. I am 66 and I miss those days so much.
  • My God 69 to 1977 the world had turned away from war , we marched in 69 and the results came through in 73. Music performers filled our hearts back then, each song lyrics reminded me of a relationship. falling in love over and over what a wonderful time
  • I was 20 in the 70s, and now I'm 70 in the 20s... and wouldn't change a thing. That decade was the absolute best.

If I could time travel. I'll forever stay in the mid 70's. Free, happy, and no drama. 💯

Bread - David Gates - it takes strength to be so gentle and sweet.

I sure miss the 70s so much that will never come again 😢 never....
  • I do believe the music was a huge part of why things were so amazing in the 70’s and 80’s growing up. It was all about the music. The music never stopped.
  • Another reason why I am grateful for growing up in the 70's.

There’s more talent in this hour and 13 minutes then what we’ve been polluted with since about 1990.

I was born in 1960, so yeah, 1977 was a sweet spot for turning 17.

No tattoos. No piercings. No green or purple hair. No occult hoodoo, no axe-grinding. No grimaces. No wardrobe "accidents". Just beautiful smiling people making sensational music and giving people the best time they can -- well, up till Manfred Mann :) THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS VIDEO.

When Nancy Wilson began that intro, I think everyone in the audience was like - "Oh my God"!

I dedicate the Slow Dancin' (Johnny Rivers) song to my house.. I sang that to my house while building my recording studio in basement, late at night, with the lights down low, no one else around, just me and my girl.. Still swayin' to the music too :)

I've told many people, there will never be anything again like Midnight Special. The best of the time showing you that they were the real deal. The audio is top notch. Just beautiful.
