  • It's like Bob Ross... but I'm on acid and lost in a city I don't know and my grandma won't stop calling

Most of my life i thought the game was playing to win. When i live this way there is always a fear of losing. Play, win, or lose. I have a new game. Play, play, play. Make art play. Thats the mantra today šŸ˜Š

I was literally just outside watering the garden and thinking that I need to flip my life around; instead of being constantly depressed from not knowing how to do things properly, that I need to become childlike and curious and just play around. There are a million ways to do the same thing and achieve a result that is satisfactory but doesn't fit into the mold of "correct" or "by code". Just start doing things to see what I can figure out, like a child again. Then I came indoors, turned on my computer, and this video popped up. Thank you, Life.

As a burned out artist and public school art teacher who needs to laugh, please continue. I NEED THIS! THANK YOU!

If you ever have doubts about making these videos, don't. They're great!
  • Art is for the fearless. My entire life I didnt pursue art & didnā€™t respect artists because somehow I got it into my head that artists are ungrateful (they pursue their passion and that makes them ungrateful instead of those that work hard to get ā€œpracticalā€ jobs). I worked hard at the practical things - Aā€™s in school, take classes because it looks good for college, all of that. I lived a miserable 30 years & ended up a total loser working passionless minimum wage jobs. I didnt have skills because I was passionless about everything Iā€™d ever done. Now Iā€™m going for art. Iā€™m more terrified than Iā€™ve ever been in my life. I could end up homeless. What about a.i.? what if Iā€™m not good enough? Art is for the fearless because to become an artist - to be able to shut those scared voices up just to learn, youā€™ve gotta be fearless.
  • ā€œSitting in my uncomfortablenessā€. Feelings are guides - not blocks or even destinations. Iā€™m getting my poetry published, and Iā€™m trying my best to stay optimistic that my vulnerable curiosity is worthy of being seen. I am accepting that it wonā€™t be for everybody, but it will reach those who love it.

This felt like an adult children's art TV show! šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜ā¤ I sat here watching, wide eyed, just like back in the day! hahahahaha!
  • @patbingsuyaa
I just realized that university and the pressure to conform screwed with my curiosity. Your videos have been healing me in so many ways David. Thank you. The timing is just perfect ā¤

As an artist who frequently gets art blocks due to burnout or perfectionism, this video has been so healing for my soul. :virtualhug:
  • @arknark
Thanks for bringing the child out in a bunch of anxiety-ridden adults <3 Sending a telepathic high-five
  • @meghanuh
i struggle so much with perfectionism and for the first time i just let loose and just allowed myself to create. i feel amazing thank you for inspiring my freedom :)
  • @k.k.2157
Watching this video while having a depressive episode that keeps me up at night is oddly calming. My sad adult ass is feeling like a child full of hopes and dreams again. Bless you, man.
  • Freestyle creativity is arguably the hardest type. It's easier when you have a pre-existing topic in mind, and then create from there without a pre-set template
  • @andrewg3161
After watching a bunch of these. I feel like you'd be perfect at writing a children's show that delves into these sorts of perspective shifts. You allow yourself to be playful and fun while overcoming some pretty heavy negative self talk and self destructive patterns that a lot of people, especially artists/creators experience. In a way you already do it here and it's a great way to deliver a message. Thank you for being a positive voice in my brain.
  • @me_malene
I have litterally only watched 27 seconds.. I already really like this man
  • @GASVHS
i used to feel so creative but my art teacher would just fail me for not following the "project" really took away from the meaning of creating from curiosity. thank u
