► Have you ever wondered what happens to the last starter Pokemon? When you first start playing Pokemon, Red and Blue, when you visit Professor Oak's Lab, you get the choice of Bulbasaur, Charmander or Squirtle. You can take one Pokemon, and your rival Blue (Gary Oak) chooses the starter that is strong against yours. But what becomes of the third?

It turns out, in the data of Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow, there is an unused fight against Prof. Oak, where he uses insanely powerful Pokemon -
Level 66 Tauros. Level 67 Exeggutor, Level 68 Arcanine, Level 70 Gyarados and finally, Level 69 Blastoise/Charizard/Venusaur.

It seems like at some point in Pokemon red and blue, Professor Oak was supposed to take the third starter Pokemon, and use it to battle against you! For some reason this fight was scrapped, however you can see him use the third starter and battle against him by doing a glitch!

Steps -
Make sure you have a Pokemon with a special stat of 226
Have a Pokemon that knows Fly
Have a Pokemon that knows Growl

1 - Do the trainer fly glitch.
2 - Fly and fight a trainer to regain menu access.
3 - Encounter a ditto, have ditto transform into your Pokemon with 226 special. Use growl 4/5/6 times, depending on which final starter evolution you want Oak to have.
4 - Fly back to the location you did the trainer fly glitch. Battle Prof. Oak!

  • @ShizuruNakatsu
Oak: Here's your starters, goodbye! Red and Blue: *goes on a journey* Oak: Time to sneak around catching Pokémon, building up my own team, levelling them up high enough to beat the champion, and of course evolving this starter Pokémon to it's final form, all while making sure Red and Blue don't see me. Red: I think I'll go back to the lab and check on good ol' Professor Oak. Oak: Shit! *quickly sprints back to Pallet Town*

If you see the level curve of the Elite Four and Champion, Professor Oak's levels are exactly what they would be if there were to be a fight right after the champion fight. Perhaps Professor Oak was originally planned to challenge you right after becoming champion.
  • Imagine accidentally discovering this and telling all your friends, but nobody believes you.
  • "His team is incredibly strong" continues to one-shot everything
  • @ZekuChanU
"the level of the pokemon that he uses makes him the strongest trainer in the game" Proceeds to send out a level 100 Dragonite

I was always curious how the professor managed to get from their lab to the hall of fame before you.
  • @dantheman2078

Imagine who discovered this. Oh my god wait- I don’t wanna fight you!! My controls aren’t working.. maybe I’ll start a battle and it’ll work again? Aw, I lost! Okay, they are working! Yay! Let’s do more! A ditto! I was waiting for that. Ugh, it copied my Abra.. Charizard is super effective against Abra, right? Charizard, use Growl! Ugh, it isn’t working. I’m running! I guess I’ll go to Route 24. Augh! Why did my menu pop up! I gotta check my Pokemon anyways. W-WHAT

The “ow, that’s tragic” line is pulled directly from the first Trainer on the Nugget Bridge.
  • @Kevironio
Trainer: Causes glitches in the reality of their binary existence Prof Oak: "I already told this man there's a time and place for everything."
  • @bitter-bit
This is absolutely amazing. I love knowing that Professor Oak trained up the starter with his old team. That's so great. It's so heartwarming. They should have left this in!
  • @monster.4144
Oak uses last starter to rub his back when noone sees😂😅
  • @K4R0SH1
Mike: "Four out of five of prof. Oak's pokemon are the same as gary's" Me: uhh, Grandpa like Grandson?
  • I think I might know why Prof. Oak said ‘Ow! That’s tragic!’ after you beat him. The bird keeper you fought with had the same fail speech line and it might of been stored in the game’s data somewhere, waiting to be used. Since Prof. Oak’s fail speech line was probably undefined, the game might’ve used speech from the last trainer you fought, that being the bird keeper in Route 15.
