  • Context-wise the laughing scene in ff10 was supposed to be like that. Tidus recently learned the truth about his father and was in a very sad mood so Yuna decided to cheer him up by forcing him to laugh. Trying to force a very depressed guy to laugh can and will come off very awkwardly. Tidus’ VA did do a video about that scene and offered some behind the scene context about it so I would recommend watching it. It’s just kinda sad that people use that scene as an example on bad voice-acting.

That megaman X4 clip was so beautiful. How could it not move you to tears?
  • It's funny that this video started with Resident Evil 1 and later on had Spuuky talking about his experiences working as an English VA in Japan, because the RE1 cast were in a similar boat, which is part of why the voice acting turned out as awkward as it did. The voice direction they got from the Japanese Capcom staff ended up giving us English voice acting that sounded really good... to people who only spoke Japanese, lol. And I mean that when I say it; Shinji Mikami, the game's director, famously decided to cut the Japanese dub they recorded for RE1 from the game because he thought the performances weren't good enough, but kept the English one for all releases of the game, implying he thought it had the better preformances, which is quite ironic in hindsight.
  • The best bad voice acting moment I’ve ever seen is at the end of Hwoarang’s story in Tekken 4. It’s supposed to be a serious, emotional conflict—a huge clash in personalities between a somber, introspective warrior who was born with a chip on his shoulder and a raging spitfire who kicks first and asks questions never. Instead, it just comes across as clunky and… dubbed.
  • In Chaos Wars, the director hired their actual family to voice act

I have yet to see James Arnold Taylor put on a bad performance. This is the dude who everyone now recognises as either the voice of Ratchet in the Ratchet & Clank games or the voice of Obi Wan Kenobi in Clone Wars. Yeah the former is just him reusing his Tidus voice but the latter is a nigh on pitch perfect recreation of Ewen Mcgregor's Obi Wan Kenobi voice.

I just remembered the voice acting in mobile game ad commercials, should have suggested that for your tweet 😭

the laugh was like that on purpose. It's a forced laugh. Then again you think mickey knew about aqua being in the realm of darkness since bbs when it was made clear he only found out during 0.2, which takes place during kh1, and had to keep sora and riku from going down there and dying before they were ready, so I'm not surprised you misunderstood that tidus' laugh was forced despite it being straight up said in the cutscene to be a forced laugh, and had a normal laugh right after.

The dub is just objectively better than the original in FFX. A couple of the voice actors ended up going on to be pretty famous. The endings are also slightly different, and it is widely agreed upon that the English ending is better.
