All you need to do is tell a guardian that an enemy has a new gun for them to get, and that enemy is gone in the next 5 business minutes
  • I'm super glad that you're talking about Guardians here! in my opinion Guardians with the light in their system and a ghost by their side are essentially Demi-gods: It can resurrect them, they can double-triple jump or glide across air molecules, space magic powers that rival that of old-world gods, etc. However, take out the Ghost(easier said than done) and you have a human being who has some fighting skill, but will over time lose the remaining light since they no longer have the Ghost as a conduit- He'll be mortal. All in all it's not really fair to put super soldiers and Guardians in the same roster since Guardians are in a totally different ballpark.

One of my favorite lines about guardians is "one guardian is a force, three guardians...an army.
  • @Mornavial
I think the more interesting thing about Guardians is that in the Destiny universe "Destiny" is pre written. The future is sealed and that's that... But the light and darkness transcend that and can break it. Hence the phrase "Guardians make their own fate"

I love that he choose Halo with Master Chief, cause in Destiny there are two different Easter Eggs that talk about a Master Cheif-like guardian and how he was a legend. One of the Easter eggs is in D1 and has him in a cryo-pod sleeping, the other in D2 is part of an exotic quest, for the Magnum from Halo, where his pod crash landed on Eternity. Gotta love how even the Guardians have their own version of Chief and that he was still a badass even in their ranks.

Theres the fact that the subclasses Stasis and Strand are darkness subclasses, meaning guardians wouldn't need a ghost if they could just be using those subclasses as that power actually comes from within the person wielding it as opposed to the external forces of the light. Although they would still only die once
  • It’s more weakness to paracausal weapons, like a guardian or the darkness. Something with the traveler/pyramid’s power can kill it.
  • True. Plus depending on the guardian/class, you’re either facing an unstoppable tank or a glass cannon and anything in between. And considering how warlocks can basically throw black holes at people, it gets really complicated really quick.
  • @jdman2210
Not to mention the fact that guardians are paracausal basically meaning that they can operate outside the laws of the universe. For example being literally wiped from the timeline guardians just say nope I still exist

There are various things that can stop a guardian from being powerful. Like you said with their ghosts being their life and power source. There have been a few things to stop them: Traveler-blocking devices, the darkness, high-power bullets, and if up close: crushing. Their advantage, however, his being able to disappear at will to avoid capture and just needing to be at the place at any time to revive. Guardians also have the darkness, which while not providing resurrection, it provides an ability against natural reality, which could prove difficult to fight against. Edit: To dissuade from the confusion, crushing implies the use of paracausal power with the crush since I lined it up with other high powered things.
  • Not to mention enchanted weapons and armor. The lore implication on some of the armor is absolutely insane. Also in the lore it was common practice to protect your ghost using a small warding bubble on them. Normally a ghost would wait for the right opportunity to rez their guardian. As to avoid getting destroyed
  • Been getting into destiny lore lately, and honestly comparing Guardians to super soldiers is like comparing Zeus to a your average soldier. The deeper you go into the lore, the more you realize that Guardians are basically Demi-Gods that cannot be (permanently) killed by normal means. Ghosts are immune to small arms fire, they can hide in a pocket dimension, and the only things that can really stop a ghost alone are paracausal weapons. Not to mention that every bit of gear used by a Guardian is enchanted by space magic. Super soldiers while hella strong, are still human. Guardians square up with literal gods on MULTIPLE occasions, and come out on top. Comparing the two is really hard to do since Guardians are in a completely different league. Its like pitting Super Man against a tank.
  • @lorzon
Ghosts are what is known as a "Paracausal Entity" and they can only really be damaged or destroyed by specially designed weapons or other being with Paracausal capability.
  • @papaalex95
Lol, Destiny Guardians would take Master Chief and turn him into a gun :D
  • @Churro_EYT
You see, the thing back then is that yes we as guardiams pretty much rely on the traveler for our light powers. I mean just look at the entire Red War campaign, or the countless number of guardian's bodies we have came across whos light has been stripped away or siphoned somehow. But the thing is now, even if we were to lose the light or the light abandoned us somehow, we learned to control Darkness powers. Not entirely leaving us defenseless
  • @pinkpearl0498
Reminder that Guardians literally break spacetime with their existence.
  • Here's the thing with Ghosts: They're not weak to things outside the universe. They're weak to things that don't make sense in ANY universe. The universe of every other super soldier franchise out there obeys the laws of causality, that is to say that they all have a cause and effect. Even the most ridiculous science fiction is counted, since if there's an in-universe explanation, then it is causal. Ghosts are vulnerable to either overwhelmingly extreme amounts of causal or conventional force or a moderate amount of paracausal force. Paracausal, as in things that do not obey cause and effect. Literally unexplainable events or phenomena that happen without ANY explanation. The bullet that killed Cayde's ghost took months to create and was paracausal in nature. Master Chief, as impressive as he is, still obeys the laws of causality wholly, so he won't be able to kill a Ghost.
  • @MorikTheRed
We can all say.. Hands down Bungie is really good at story telling and lore about all their games There are Thousands of armor/weapons and even items from D1 and D2 that haves its own lore on it💀 imagine being the person writing up the lore
  • @blighttown169
ghosts can really only be destroyed by paracausal or darkness-oriented weaponry, the bullet that killed Cayde's ghost looked to be inscribed with a bunch of hive runes and likely had a bunch of hive curses attached to it
