Lyrics:

When I look back upon my life
it’s always with a sense of shame
I’ve always been the one to blame
For everything I long to do
no matter when or where or who
has one thing in common too

It’s a, it’s a, it’s a, it’s a sin
It’s a sin
Everything I’ve ever done
Everything I ever do
Every place I’ve ever been
Everywhere I’m going to
It’s a sin

At school they taught me how to be
so pure in thought and word and deed
They didn’t quite succeed
For everything I long to do
no matter when or where or who
has one thing in common too

It’s a, it’s a, it’s a, it’s a sin
It’s a sin
Everything I’ve ever done
Everything I ever do
Every place I’ve ever been
Everywhere I’m going to
It’s a sin

Father forgive me
I tried not to do it
Turned over a new leaf
then tore right through it
Whatever you taught me
I didn’t believe it
Father you fought me
‘cause I didn’t care
and I still don’t understand

So I look back upon my life
forever with a sense of shame
I’ve always been the one to blame
For everything I long to do
no matter when or where or who
has one thing in common too

It’s a, it’s a, it’s a, it’s a sin
It’s a sin
Everything I’ve ever done
Everything I ever do
Every place I’ve ever been
Everywhere I’m going to I
It’s a sin

Confiteor Deo omnipotenti vobis
fratres quia peccavi nimis cogitatione, verbo, opere
et omissione. Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.

I am listening to this masterpiece --once again. I am 85, from Uruguay. Unbelievable rythm

My Dad loves the Pet Shop Boys. He's 76 this year. In an argument once, I asked him what he really wanted in life. He said all he wanted to do was sit in his own house and listen to Pet Shop Boys at 3 in the morning with a glass of Port. He played this one in the car once so loud the vehicle was vibrating and he was shouting the lyrics at the top of his voice, windows open going 70 down the motorway. I love my Dad.

The Pet Shop Boys will always remind me of my Dad..I just turned 39 and he’s 75 this year, it’s great to see The Pet Shop Boys getting the love they deserve!
  • To whoever is listening to this song now, wherever you are.... Sending you love, peace, healing and all good wishes. May your life be good
  • Timeless masterpiece. And music in the 80s was simply the best, nothing is comparable to that era.

It's July 2024 and while I took everything for granted in the 80s, the older I get the more I appreciate the "old stuff" from that era. A decade in which we were treated with the best possible music (well, let's not forget the 70s as well) seems so far away, but thanks to YouTube you can rewind it whenever you want. An absolute timeless masterpiece........

The sign of great music is when it sounds just as fresh almost 40 years later.
  • Best way to start 2024 is to go back to the sheer joy of having lived in the days when songs like this one were given to us! Thank you, love and light to everyone out there relishing this as well!

This video used to scare me as an eleven year old kid. Now I'm 46 and it makes me cry thinking about the past. Thank you P.S.B. for being there for me musically all along this crazy, wild trip called life.

Did you hear this song when it was number one in 1987? Do you still love it in July 2024?

30 years ago , I was pregnant Catholic unmarried and a student. This song helped me to continue my pregnancy . My daughter became head girl of her school and is a doctor.

Pet Shop boys evrenseldir….

Greetings from Russia!!! I was still at school, when I was 16-17 years old, I already listened to this song, and we danced to it at a disco. This was back in the USSR in 1987-88. I saw this clip later!!! How nice to be back in your youth!..

I wasn't even alive in the 80s, but adore this song.
  • I always loved this song. I'm 62 now and I still get a melancholy feel from the beautiful lyrics, melody and instruments. I was in my 20s and enjoying my life as an 80s alternative kid. Thinking seriously about the lyrics I'm reminded that a lot of what I did was considered a sin. I didn't care so much then.but thanks to Jesus I can live in gratitude instead of fear of punishment.
