How you may be eligible for student loan forgiveness

Published 2024-06-24
The US Department of Education is implementing a payment adjustment that could grant borrowers credit toward loan forgiveness. Mark Kantrowitz, student loan expert and author of "How to Appeal for More College Financial Aid," joins Wealth! to break down the details of this credit.
Kantrowitz highlights June 30 as the crucial eligibility deadline by which borrowers must consolidate their loans. He clarifies that this adjustment specifically applies to Federal Family Education (FFEL), Perkins, and Health Education Assistance (HEAL) loans.
"These are older loans that have probably been in repayment for a long time," Kantrowitz explains to Yahoo Finance. "And if they get the benefit of the payment count adjustment... they may have already met the requirements for forgiveness."

  • So, so they want to be fair and forgive all student loans or not the doctor loans, some they will be making plenty of money. Is it just the losers who gained useless degrees that won’t get them hired?

Can someone on the left give me a serious, non slogany, answer why student debt voluntarily agreed to should now be transferred to me and other taxpayers? I work for a living, own my home, pay my bills. Why do I have to pay for some Rich kids college? Or for students who never finished and/or don’t use their degrees to work and earn their own way? Anyone? Anyone?

I’m an electrician. It’s awesome doing hard physical labor to fund a 4 year vacation for “oppressed” brats so they could figure out that they better get to a coding boot camp.
