The first cargo ship passed through Baltimore's newly opened deep-water channel on Thursday after being stranded in the harbor for a month since the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse.

A cargo ship sailing past the wreckage of the bridge and the stranded Dali, which struck it, is a sign of the ongoing recovery efforts since the catastrophic bridge collapse killed six construction workers.

  • This was Baltimore's "Pearl Harbour" moment. But human endeavor has shown that the promise of reopening the port by a month end, has been kept!
  • The root cause of the event has to do with instability of multiple generators running in parallel. This is a common problem on many large ships. It results in unwanted trip outs. It is rather complex and will take the NTSB time to unravel. Hopefully there will be no more goof ups before shipping companies and crews get a better handle on this. The fact that crews often rotate between ships increases the liklihood of another occurance. The days of two generators running either /or is history.
