As snakes grow, their skin does not grow with them. Because of that they need to shed their skin. This process happens from time to time and it depends on the speed of growth of each snake. Young snakes grow faster so they also shed their skin more often than adults. We show you a wild Herald snake (Crotaphopeltis hotamboeia) from South Africa during shedding its skin. Snakes are vulnerable when they shed their skin so it is not very common to observe this behavior in nature. We got lucky and you can enjoy watching it in our vide

  • I like at the end as he's getting in strike mode, he says "sike" and splits real fast. That Herald, he's such a nice snake:) What a character..
  • I have a number of pet snakes. Watching them she’d never gets old. It’s amazing to see the difference before and after.

Thank you guys! Your footage always blows my mind as somehow you are able to get these creatures acting natural like you’re not even there. I don’t know how you do it but I’m so glad you do. Thank you so much! Hope y’all(yes I’m Texan😂) have an awesome day!

Like that you don't harass the snake to get a dramatic defensive shot. Nice to see other normal behaviors. Great camera work, as always.
  • I'm South African and the Drakensberg (Dragon Mountains) are my favourite. Never heard of that type of snake, so thanks for sharing new knowledge.

All I know that to get such moments of snakes, it take a lot of time and patience, so great job there and stunning little snake, I have watched and learnt .

The Herald Snake is striking! I love how the shed skin stayed on the tree. Awesome video.
  • Two things. 1) I was fascinated by the ant biting or chewing on the shed skin at around 6.20 and 2) Does it flatten its head to make itself look more dangerous, more viperish?
  • Deus é perfeito, belissímo video❤Grata por nos proporcionar com este momento incrivel da natureza👏👏🙌
