I almost cracked a rib laughing when the girl called her "ma'am" 😂

This movie had no business being as emotional as it turned out to be. Really surprised me at how well they balanced the raunchy humor with the sensitive drama. I remember this scene in the theatre and it took my breath away. And then I was laughing hysterically at lines like, "Couldn't hurt" "MIGHT HURT"...

Jennifer Lawrence just gets better and better. You really feel on yourself what she feels watching him play the piano as he overcomes his shyness to sing from the heart. One of the best scenes in an unexpectedly great movie.

The hopelessness and vulnerability in his eyes when he said, “I don’t know what you want.” Ugh. Brilliantly performed scene by both Lawrence and Feldman.

Minor Spoiler: This is by far my favorite scene from the entire movie. He is such a great musician but too shy, he HAS to play something and he plays the song from when they first met... the song gets you right in the feels, and then the camera zooming in on Maddie specially when he sings "Oh here she comes...watch out boy she'll chew you up" and she is trying to hide how she's feeling, and also afraid that she is going to break this amazing man's heart... Something really sad but etheral beautiful about this scene.

Ok, gotta admit it...Jennifer Lawrence can act! She emoted more with a look than most actors can with a monolog.
  • Lawrence's delivery of "might hurt" was actually 10/10 pitch perfect, one of my favourite lines from the whole movie and it's two words! This movie was underrated.

Little Trivia, they did this scene in one take LIVE. Because the actors WANTED it unvarnished. So thats actually him playing AND singing IN the restaurant. It's also HIS arrangement of the song.
  • Whoever this young man is I hope he gets more roles. He nailed the soft puppy vulnerable soul. It’s impressive to stand out when your co-star is Jennifer Lawrence.

She looked extremely perfect in that dress and fit right into this song

The real subplot is not his coming of age, but her accepting her own. It's so much harder...

The "I don't know what you want" hits hard. It's not angry, it's just defeated.

I'm so in love with JL, the expression on her face while he was playing the piano, i just melted, she's so beautiful.
  • This movie was bait & switch! It lures you in with the promise of a raunchy comedy, but then turns the tables and puts you front and center to set of complex emotional interactions between the two lead characters. Agree with others here; this is the best scene from the movie that is filled with other great scenes. Can't wait to watch it again on streaming...

"So nice to meet you, ma'm" LOL I keep watching this clip over and over.

I love how you can tell his confidence is growing as the song goes on. Cried laughing 3 or 4 times before this and then teared up at him singing.
