Top Blood Angels META Lists - SoS & Ironstorm (May 2024)

Hey it's Steve, the "BA" guy in the final. I have followed you for years, watch almost every video. I primarily run SoS in 10th, but with the points changes so close to the event I was unsure of the changes with the list. The SoS matchup was helped basically due to me knowing everything he would try and do to me. Understanding his threat ranges, where he would come down and blocking that with trash, and knowing he needs to commit his resources into cheaper things like Baal predators in the front. I understood this would mean he would have to commit his punches to these things and they just die to the shooting in response. I wish I had practice into the CC matchup, because I was vastly underprepared. Just wanted to say hi and give me thoughts on the BA vs BA matchup! I was familiar with IS, but felt more comfortable with no reps in this detachment than the other. Anyway. Cheers

In defense of the SoS unit selection, it feels like he was utilizing the 5-man jump intercessors as potential scoring units too. Circles have started debating the potential of jump intercessors replacing scouts, or expanding the use of scouts in scoring, while also adding a solid unit for the detachment.

I think to be fair the melee BA list only lost out by 9 points to the BA Ironstorm list, that could basically come down to a bad card or a few bad rolls. But I think probably taking Dante and the 5 San Guard out of the list, plus the enhancement would give you 285 pts to use, so you could get like 2 Ballistus Dreads in there or 1 Ballistus and 1 DC dread, or like 5 DC with a chaplain and a combi lt, something like that and those would probably be more efficient uses of the points, that would add some more anti-tank threat. I still think overall the points nerfs to Lemartes, DC, and the San priests hurt too much for Sons, and were not necessary. The San priest was already expensive considering it is a poor base character, a San Priest with JP is now 5pts less than Azrael which is bonkers, and 100 pts for what basically is a unit upgrade, when even the best enhancements across all factions are 30-40 points, it just seems too much. Especially when good SM characters like chaplains, captains, judicars etc. are like in the 70-80 points range and have good unit buffs plus better datasheets than a SP. 10 points on Lemartes and 20 pts on DC just seems harsh as well. Sons lists overall from the weekend are back down to a 46% win rate, which just shows the nerfs were unnecessary. All the positivity from the +2s and the improving results has been eroded IMO. Especially as factions like Necrons or Ironstorm lists seemed to get off more lightly than BAs did, even though they were already better.

Not gonna lie this came at a perfect time. Maybe tmi but I'm about to head into court for a custody and rights issue and so stressed I may need new pants. This helped so much.

i think its interesting that the ironstorm list had a better objective score than the SoS one even though the SoS has way more bodies, makes me feel like Lone op and tank OC needs to be looked at.

It is a good sign that so many different list are able to compete.

An interesting tactic for sons of sanguinius is using cheap fast units to tie down important targets in melee and to rapid ingress assault terminators to have an easy target to charge next turn.

We can see absolute great use of min-max tactics minimum(Infantry/vehicles)-max(vehicles/infantry) As long as u control opponents assets that can kill your (vehicles/infantry) you can rampage through tabletop easy, because yes you have 40 T4 w2 3+ marines yeas lascannon can easy kill one marine, but there is 1-2 may be 10 ok shots of LC but you can`t kill them all I'm gonna try replicate second list And all of the army benefit from the detachment ability

Just an FYI, the first list only had one Gladiator Lancer in it, not two.

I know you don’t like assault terminators John but I’ve been toying with the idea of 10 with lightning claws and a terminator librarian. 60 S7 AP2 attacks, sustained, lethal & lance with red rampage and twin-linked? If it’s oath target too whatever you point that at gets WRECKED
