Imagine how philosophy teachers are going to explain this 500 years from now

"I'm riding a pony into the sunset. Everything's green and gold so I'm not in hell yet" Is such a raw line for a happy tune, it's crazy how it still fits so well. I'm in awe.

If they don't play this on loop in the Mt St Helens Gift Shop I'm going to be very disappointed

Three years later and I'm still haunted by the fact that "Oh, it's a Very Strong blimp" is in quotations. What the hell is it supposed to mean?
  • what the hell did I just watch this is so oddly specific, I'm concerned Bill may be a prophet and is trying to warn us of impending doom but can't because the only form of communication he has is through videos that seem like acid trips edit: came back to this and two people replied about me not having watched a Bill Wurtz video before.

I relistened the song after a while and it suddenly clicked with me - in all its horribly depressing glory. The businessman whose business has been ruined by a natural catastrophe, basically deciding to throw himself into death (Staying by Mt.Helen as it erupts as everyone tries to escape). Says how he's not in hell **YET**, riding into the sunset, etc. You would think that it's about a random natural catastrophe, but later verses show that it's a metaphor for humanity-driven catastrophes. All the climate change rigamarole ruining lives in grander scales. How the rich are going to hide away in the blimp of modern amenities and distractions, how it's NEVER going down even if the world burns down around it. But, it being a blimp, thus notoriously easy to take down, it's a grim catastrophe waiting to happen too. And the final things about how Mt.Helen (Likely a representation of the unfeeling, unreasonable catastrophes) won't listen and won't reason when it decides to erupt. A song about the helplessness one feels when confronted with existential dread of humanity bringing about its own undoing.

My Dad was camping under Mt Saint Helens the night it erupted, and woke up to the ceiling of his tent right in front of his face sagging with ash. He and his friends canoe had filled up with so much ash that it sunk, and in the surrounding area cars were so crusted with ash that they flat out wouldn't work to the point where people would just burn their cars. After coming back to this song with that story in mind, all I can think about is people riding away from the erupted St Helens on ponies cuz they can't use their cars anymore.

“The dow jones just fell down to zero” *laughts nervously *
  • @HardlegGaming
This feels less like a song and more like some cryptic prophecy of things to come.

This just made my 9 yr old cry with laughter “and that doesn’t happen unless things are REALLY GOOD” he says. “I need a break, because my eyeballs can’t take it!” Thanks Bill for being REALLY GOOD
  • I adore how Bill’s lyrics and animations are so often so nonsensical, yet make complete sense.

"Slip into something more reasonable" A suit with ducks on it Very reasonable
  • cant wait for when 100 years from now highschoolers are gonna need to find the meaning of these videos

This from someone who lived in Washington state not too long ago and has been to Mt.St. Helens, I can confirm the gift shop is still there

“Everything’s green and gold, so I’m not in hell yet” Don’t worry Bill, you’re not going to hell.
