that whispering in the Lyne house room made me shut my game off one time.

Silent Hill 1 and 2 are uncontested kings of psychological horror.

The whispering scared the hell outta me. I was in my basement playing this in the dark and had to turn around to see if someone was there, lol. What makes it even worse is my sister does some sewing as a hobby from time to time and has a mannequin down there too, directly behind the chair where I play.
  • It’s simply incredible that 20 years later people are still posting secrets in Silent Hill 2. Goes to show how much time and effort was put into this game.

The whispering is confirmed to be nothing more but stock sound recordings

Alot of people don't talk about it or appreciate it, but one of the things that scared me was the cemented off apartment units. You run down the hallway and there are doorways that are just plastered/cemented over. That means there is a pitch black apartment behind that potentially filled with monsters and blood. Spooky.

Imagine playing this alone in the middle of the night and suddenly this whisper comes out of nowhere

It's all the little things like this that really make Silent Hill the King of horror games. No other game slowly gets under your skin like this. I wouldn't mind if someone were to make one that did do better but there hasn't been one to come close yet. IMO

wow does anyone remember that scary ass deep voice in the prison block? that one was more terrifying.

0:12 -> I remember that sound. I was playing around 2.00AM or 3.00AM and I heard that sound at full volume with the headphones. I felt a terrible chill...
  • I heard them all, but some of those sounds comes randomly just like in other areas, for example, the first save point at the well near the cemetery, sometimes you can hear something draguing around very faster and sometimes you won't. Also, inside the disc there's a bunch of unused sound effects placed along the whole game. I remember well one of them played around Blue Creek apartments, like some kind of metal bottle like a stinguisher being thrown against the wall, and the other one happens at the Lake View Hotel, a clearly sounding of footsteeps on a rug, coming from the second floor. I know it's not a big deal, but I'm still amazed by how very detailed Silent Team was in every technical aspects of the game.

Thanks for this, i thought i had early signs of schizophrenia. Glad to know it really made those sounds

I always felt like the Woodside Apartments were haunted (just like the mansion Maria visits in the Born from a Wish story, where Earnest and his daughter haunts the halls and rooms). I mean, between the footsteps, and the whispering in that one room, and just the general vibe I get from just feeling like you're being...watched in some of the rooms and halls, it just makes it even scarier for me. And just when I thought I couldn't make Silent Hill 2 more terrifying than it already is.

There is still in prison, the crying of a child or something ...

I once played this with my cousins inside the garage with me. (We were 12) They got bored of watching me play so they all went outside to play tag while I was still inside the garage in pitch dark playing. Once I started seeing enemies in the fog I said NOPE “Gently” put down the controller...and ran like hell outta there as if my life depended on it.
  • Silent Hill 2 and 3 are masterclasses in the human psyche and why a games writing can truly make the difference.

That whisper is so creepy, i never heard it in game and i first heard it after downloading all the sound files and going through them.
