Arcana Cleric gains an awesome 6th level power called Spell Breaker. It upgrades your heals into a dispel effect for spells affecting the target of your healing.
  • I would find a way to incorporate at least 2 levels of Bard. AFAIK Jack of All Trades applies to Counterspell (& initiative) checks 😏. Works thematically with a Satyr as well

Daamn really cool the magic missile + mage slayer feat combo! Could be really strong even against multiple spellcasters, you can hit them with one missile each and make them try concentration check with disadvantage, amazing!
  • Catching a character on fire or covering them with acid is a great way to break concentration as well. Alchemist fire and acid flasks are great for martial classes to deal with mages

This video has been a great thought experiment for me as a DM! Anything for my NPC toolbox! I realize there's already a Bladesinger NPC with a grudge against my group's casters! Who's to say what feats and spells he has? With a compelling arena, this build screams "boss fight!"
  • Late suggestions: Mindsliver is great to break concentration of non-intelligence based casters. With mage slayer the target would make the concentration at disadvantage and subtract a d4 from the result! Also being incapacitated breaks concentration so Hold Person is great for ending concentration. Other suggestions include well um.. Suggestion (“please don’t concentrate”) or command (Relax!)

Hmmm, any Bard, Magical Secrets at 10th, take 5th level paladin spell Circle of Power, protect yourself and the whole group, also take Counterspell at this level. Pick up Careful Metamagic through Adept feat, twice a day your synaptic static, hypnotic pattern etc can make your allies auto save, with circle of power eliminating the failed effects. High level Bards can be evoker wizards and have a lot of your aforementioned spells already on their list.

The martial adept feat has some great options. I think disarming attack is great for removing arcane focuses and picking them up as a free action. Other great maneuvers are maneuvering attack, trip attack, ambush, grappling strike, commander's strike, quick toss, menacing attack, and distracting strike. These are great ways to entrap the caster, get in more attacks, and deter their spell attacks. I think grabbing 2-3 levels of fighter and maybe battle master is great way of rushing a caster. Action surge also helps you to bypass the moments where they try to counterspell your spells. You could rush down two mages with this strategy.
  • I love it. I was looking for more spell ideas or what direction to go with my anti-mage and this kind of kept the ball rolling for me. I appreciate it.

Very thought out, and love the build. This is probably the most underrated DND channel out there!
  • Great Build. How would I make it cooler? Eldritch Adept for at-will Detect Magic. DM is best when it's already up and who wants to wait for 10 minutes to ritually cast it? You could pretend you have "crystal eyes" like Mizuki from "the Irregular at the Magic High School". But other than that, you could dip for cunning action or cutting words. (Rogue for movement and sneak attack, Bard for vicious mockery and cutting words)

Eldritch sight invocation ( two levels of Hexblade also makes your magic missiles better and you can have armor etc.... then you could be an abjurer and get bonuses to dispel and counterspell.

very cool. Raulothim's Psychic Lance break concentration and its a Int save so its usefull against non wizard spellcaster

If you take the Marilith form through Shapechange you can cast Counterspell every TURN (not round). Because you now have one Reaction every turn of combat.
  • 2 or 3 levels of fighter for action surge and blind fighting style could help. Maybe 3 or 4 for battlemaster or rune knight and an asi? Also eldritch adept-eldritch sight, I don't think 10 minute dungeon ritual casting should be as practical as it is. Alternatively, Ancients paladin (3+) + Aberrant Mind? sorcerer could be great. Channel Divinity Nature's Wrath for concentration free restrained followed up with a quickened dex save spell made with disadvantage if they're restrained, or a quickened booming blade-smite with advantage. Also, it might be difficult to word a Suggestion that tells a mage to not cast spells in an encounter sound reasonable when it and it's allies are being attacked. Additionally, 'cast no spells' might not qualify as a suggested "course of action/activity'. Suggestion may be interpreted as a more specific longer duration version of Command in the scope of what it can do -given that the example given is "you might suggest that a knight give her warhorse to the first beggar she meets", whereas something such as 'cast no spells' could be seen as too general/open ended, more in line with the Dominate X spells.

I feel there was a missed opportunity to really show off the power of the war magic wizard here. You get non-casting mini versions of shield and adv on saves. You get to buff your anti magic spells: Dispel magic and Counterspell. You want concentration magic so you increase your AC

Offbeat Outlaw's build that has Bladesinger + Hexblade Warlock and Crossbow Expert/Gunner works at higher levels. Eldritch Blast also hits multiple times (but needs attack rolls) and doesn't need to be at long range thanks to CBE. You can even grab the Invocation that lets you use Detect Magic at will.
  • I've always thought Tasha's Caustic Brew was underrated for this kind of build. The all-or-nothing dex save is enough of a bummer to knock it out of the top tier, but if you can add it to your spellbook or take an artificer dip, it's worth having on deck if you're pretty sure you'll be fighting wizards. When it hits, you're doing auto-damage at the start of their next turn and then forcing them to choose between more auto-damage and using their action to get clean. The 30-foot line isn't ideal, but at least you don't have to worry as much about catching melee allies as you do with most AOE attacks; dex-based martials laugh at this one, barbarians don't necessarily hate auto-damage, and most paladins will forgive you.
