  • I've always been more of a Wooden Railway kind of guy. They were less expensive, and the I kept getting frustrated with and/or accidentally breaking the couplings on the Playrail engines. But now, I can appreciate just how great this toy line was for a lot of people. And the play sets could get pretty impressive.

  • Fun fact: the bootleg Donald and Douglas trackmaster models, while looking very similar to the real ones, the tenders they pull have metal axels compared to the cheap plastic ones on the real ones.
  • The reason they never did Daisy as a motorized engine is because she was never seen pulling any sort of rolling stock on screen.
  • 31:41 Bertram, to me, has very much been the Boba Fett of the Thomas franchise: he appears for exactly 19 seconds in one episode and has no dialogue. Yet, we all love this character and he gets all these fantastic toys made of him. Very curious...
  • My most prominent childhood toys came from the ERTL Thomas range. As a boy in the late '90s, I often went to Ipswich (Suffolk) with my two brothers and my late mother, and there was a shopping outlet we passed through that had this toy section where ERTL Thomas toys were stacked up in one corner devoted wholly to themselves. My mother appreciated I liked them, and every time we went there we got a few until I had amassed a sizeable collection. I remember stuffing play-dough into the cabs of some of them. I remember one of my early schools having some of the earliest ERTL releases with the stick-on faces before they changed them to the plastic ones. When the ERTL range was discontinued, the Take-Along range came in force as its practical replacement, and I collected a number of that range in effect as well. They have all long since been given away, along with a TOMY Thomas train set I also had and some 00-scale model trains that I practically rarely used. Regards, Samuel Farris.
  • 31:51 According to HIT Toy's Company Customer Service Representative Amy Ziniti, the reason Daisy never got a Plarail or Trackmaster toy was due to the company unable to decide on whether or not to include rolling stock for her to pull, the logic there being since she never really pulled any in the classic series. If you ask me i really don't see what was wrong with adding a simple milk tanker or 2... it would've worked so perfectly. God, the memories i have playing with all the engines, rolling stock, location sets & accessories i owned as a kid is just so nostalgic, i really was in a world of my own of Sodor. I had hundreds, not just of Tomy & Trackmaster, but Take Along / Take N' Play Die-Casts to, my personal favourite was a "Metallic Thomas + Annie & Clarabel" that you added water to and he puffed actaul steam. But it's pretty sad now since i don't have literally any of them anymore. I moved house about 5 years ago and couldn't for the life of me find them anywhere!, i know for damn sure i never sold or threw anything away. It's just such a mystery and bugs me every time i think about it. Seeing these things again and still living strong in other people's collections ( especially your's Tug ) is a sight for these sore eyes and a permanent childhood trip for me. I've made it my mission one day if there's ever a chance i can find these pre-owned online somewhere, i'll rebuild my army; even ones i never had before... and boy does this further rekindles that flame. 🔥🔥
  • @RosaFan161
Mad respect for referring to these things as ''models'' throughout most of the video👊👊
  • Edward isn't loosing his eye brows he's just pretending he is still in season 2 (particularly Old Iron) 😂
  • The 2009 version of A Close Shave Duck looks so much better than the Fisher Price re-release. That version just had the shaving cream tampoed on him instead of being molded.
  • Man, Plarail/Old Trackmaster were a great nostalgic piece of Thomas merch and we did live in a great time of good Thomas toys and not crappy ones like Trackmaster from 2014
  • @Wildcatt1999
Plarail/Trackmaster is the GOAT of Thomas merchandise!
  • @alexis_ian
I first started collecting Plarail in 2020. At the same time, I got my Bachmann starter set! It's much more well known here in South East Asia (including the Philippines where I reside), and all of us collect them due to how easily accessible they are. I currently have Thomas (my first), Edward (Same as tugs), Henry (Red running board), Gordon (2014 release), 2 Percy's (one with a surprised face), Toby, Donald (which is rare), Stanley, Red Rosie, Dennis, Lady, and Diesel 10. My favorite set was the 70th edition featuring LBSC Thomas and Black James, a Re-release by Plarail, which I got last year!
  • @Libyan_Islamist
11:12 That’s the very reason why I mainly only look for the original Douglas, which is unfortunately rare
  • If you ever do an updated version of this, I think it would be really cool if you lay them out the way you did with your models? It be really cool to see them like that. It would also be really cool to know why you didn’t get certain characters, that could be really helpful for a lot of collectors to hear other opinions. I hope to collect one day, but it’s seems increasingly unlikely for me. I don’t really know how to navigate eBay as a visually impaired person.
  • I was an ERTL kid: mostly because those were the easiest ones for my mum and dad to find lol. But I really liked them too because they were so sturdy and 100% accurate to the characters. Plus, they did book characters like Jock, Neil, Frank and the Culdee Fell engines which I absolutely loved.
  • @joshuaW5621
Now I know why Plarail Oliver is so ridiculously overpriced online.
  • @Metal-Possum
I grew up experiencing the darker blue Tomy Trains. They had a Thomas range too but not nearly as extensive. Thomas aside, that stuff was awesome and really well made. Clever features too like reversing, and trackside novelties.
  • No Way , Plairal/Trackmaster has been my favorite merchandise for a long time. They should make Daisy, Derek and the nameless diesel for “Bowled out”.
