FAQ

Since it's been quite a while since the last upload I wanted to a make a small thing for questions people may have about the video.

Q: Why did this take so long to make?
A: Simply put, I was in over my head when first decided to do this! I had to learn how'd soul movement would work, how and when to shoot, menu movement, how Spamton would move, ect. using base game as a reference. Then actually put that to practice which was... easier said than done. Hopefully it still panned out ok to y'all though!

Q: Why are the colours constantly changing in the video?
A: Aesprite has a limit to how many colours can be used in a project file, since normally it's main use is to make sprites or small animations, when it's turned into a gif file then aesprite would try to simplify all the different colours and replace them with, with the more commonly used colours usually blue for some reason, I tried to reverse engineer this by changing all the colours back frame by frame on the gif versions, but over ~90,000 frames are a lot of frames! So obviously it's nowhere near perfect (If you were to zoom in while in project mode you'd be able to see the individual different pixels of something like the buildings in the background)

Basically the bigger the animation, the more gradual discolouration!

Q: Can I use the sprites shown in this video?
A: Yes! I've compiled a spritesheet along with some sounds into a Google drive, they can be used for anything really, no need to ask for permission either.

Q: Why did Noelle randomly show up midway through?
A: When I was working on the attack she shows up in pretty late at night, I just thought it'd be funny for her to unexplicably show up for a milla-second, with no reason for why.

Q: Why is Spamton defeated in one hit?
A: A mixture of two things led me to working this in:

First reason: It's kind of like a reversal of the NEO body he has at the start, that has high defense and low attack once the "Bluelight Specil"is used, the EX form is meant to mirror this as it'd have high attack and low defense, it's why he can 'one shot' the player if the big shot Spam is performed and why his attack slowly ramps up as his arms and legs are disconnected!

Second reason: From a game design standpoint, if this were added into the base game for whatever reason, I think it'd be cruel to make a player go through another full battle just right after one; so the best middle ground I found was to make this one an optional one, the reward for beating him being a superior version of the DealMaker so there'd also be incentive to do the fight.

Q: Why can't you heal towards end?
A: I wanted to use one of Spamton's lines from the Sweepstakes and use the recently seen 'SpamBug' in some form; reason for the player to keep snapping, after all, his mercy meter fills out substantially after his final attack!

“WHAT’S YOURS IS MINE AND WHAT’S [[Yours]] IS [[Mine.]]” is such a Spamton line and I love it, the writing in this is so good
  • I love that despite how different this whole fight is, it still embodies the entire message deltarune is trying to send. No matter how you go about it, Spamton ends up meeting the same fate. It's beautifully tragic, in a way. The entire fight is also SO game-accurate! I feel like someone could convince me this was from some unused Deltarune Hard Mode

I love the "random bullshit go" nature of the weather prediction and final attack, I think it fits spamton quite well

Now THAT is a proper Spamton EX. It's not rewarding to just kill him but going through the entire fight actually gives you a better thing, and the concept of the time limit is insane! I love that the music is not just a weirder version of Death By Glamour (unlike most Spamton EX themes) and actually sounds like a Spamton themed music. And the attacks and Spamton lines!! They're all so fitting with the character and just work so well. Not to mention the new ability of "ThrowString" that simply makes sense Overall this is a [[1997]]/10 concept, perfectly made and frankly with the issues you've had, this turned out insanely amazing. Be proud!!

I love this so much... I was never personally interested in the concept of a Spamton EX fight, but this one was done so well that I've actually watched it through the end and liked every single bit of it. The dialogue was really good, and I liked the concept of the coasters going backwards on the rail and you having to finish the fight before the coasters get all the way back to the beginning. I also loved the attacks... This fight unironically feels like something that would actually be in Deltarune, and that's really cool.

I kinda love how if you run out of time, you still get the shadow crystal, but Spamtons story never comes to a conclusion and thus you never get any of his items
  • @JB-bc2ry
This was absolutely worth the wait; it feels like something that could've been in Chapter 2 proper. Incredible work! :)
  • @TravistarYT
I love how Spamton's green attack is basically just "It heals in reverse."
  • @funkinmax
awesome concept, the fight feels canon as hell, well done !!
  • The attacks actually work, some of them seem like normal cyber world attacks but stronger and better, nice work on the animation!
  • I love how batshit insane this fight is, makes Spamton NEO look tame by comparison! Also, when box Spamton? I like the idea that if you keep trying to kill Spamton, his defence becomes so comically high you have to spare him eventually...
  • @TheSenkMan
I can’t tell if the lagging is on purpose or not but at this point it’s just become your signature style
  • @martinford6219
I love all the cute details like: "Spamton bakes a cake with a vegan substitute." Spamton randomly throwing Noelle at you. This is a great fight. Well done.
  • @iTrapa
Holy shit this is such a brilliant concept. Imagine the faster you do NEO fight, you get less time in EX fight since the carts didn't go as far.
  • @coolDude-sx6we
When Deltarune 2 came out, I remember asking if anybody had any fan art for Spamton EX. Nobody had any. This made my day. Thank you.
  • @diegozuniga4201
Imagine if the amount of the time it took beat Spamton is actually saved and timed for this fight
  • @hotrod_hornet
Im ALMOST a loss for words. This is one of the best pieces of Spamton Fan content I've EVER seen. There's just so many mechanics that are genius, and the attack patterns look so fun to play. I honestly feel like I dont know where to start. First off the music choice was thankfully pretty good, getting a proper Spamton Ex theme down is pretty hard in my opinion. Mainly because you have to either pick the route where its a hypothetical happy ending for him where EX = He's fixed and not crazy anymore. Or the more likely option where it simply acts as a follow-up to Big Shot. The design itself is what you would expect. Interesting to see the Triangle chest piece relegated to half of the chest armor, allowing for the speaker holes to make an appearance on the other pink triangle. The shoulder pads matching the NEO color scheme is to be expected. Since its Spamton, it only makes sense for them to be gaudy and rough on the eyes opposed to the sleek black ones Mettaton has. Spamtons hair cant really change too much, part of why the NEO fight worked so well is because Spamtons hair was already slicked back naturally, so it just worked having it essentially wind blasted backwards. Spamton with EX's more suave relaxed Bangs wouldn't translate smoothly, so I understand keeping it as-is. The onlyyy thing I personally don't see eye2eye on is his rosey cheeks making a comeback. I feel like they were removed for a reason on the Neo form, like Spamton cant 100% fully morph his face onto it. Its literally the only thing in this entire animation that I'm not fully onboard with, so thats GOTTA mean something lol. The Red design is such a great call back to all the fanart of people desperately wishing to see Mettaton Ex in his reporter uniform. Was absolutely thrilled to see it, even if he had no arms by that point lol. The dialogue during the fight is pretty much PERFECT. I could only imagine how freaked out Suzie and Ralsei must have been. Hey, it also makes Suzies line about the "Hands" after beating Neo make sense, since this fight now features a [Hand-Full] of 5 fingered attacks. I love the utalization of the railroad tracks by having Suzie and Ralsei get wrecked by 2 Spam-trains. The "Disco?" ball attack was so good, I loved seeing the little guy drop to the floor and walk around. Im very glad to see you make Spamton Ex have a dance and several Leg based attacks, it just wouldn't be right without them. Was really happy to see the unused pillar attacks as well towards the end there. That custom Sprite for GIGA Spamton EX is lovely as well, very interesting close up of the armor, even if its slightly modified compared to the base version... just like how NEO's was. Feels a bit Tank-like with how compressed the shoulder pads are, also the yellow heart was a very nice detail. While I fear Toby Fox may never show us what Spamton EX could have been I have absolutely 0 doubt it would have been JUST like this. Well done.
