"Yo," Drake said to Boi-1da, after hearing an early version of "Mob Ties" for the first time. "Make sure you put this one on lock for me." Working late within the Scorpion sessions, Boi-1da crafted "Mob Ties" with collaborators Allen Ritter and Ashley Turner. What began as a half-time slow burn of an R&B track eventually transformed into the trap anthem we know today, with a little help from Omnisphere and Splice Sounds. "Mob Ties" is one of many of Drake and Boi-1da's collaborations, with a partnership spanning as far back as 2009's "Best I Ever Had" all the way to 2018's "God's Plan."
Watch Boi-1da tell us about meeting a young Aubrey Graham aka Drake (still riding a wheelchair down Degrassi High), how their collaborations come to life, and being nominated for six Grammy awards this year, including his win for "God's Plan."

What other Boi-1da tracks do you want to hear the story behind?

Grew up around the corner from 1da, watched him make beats in his basement back when we were kids. Hes always been humble. He stayed home to watch his little brother & made beats, that was his life. He worked countless hours to get where he is. I remember telling him he would make it many times & look at him now. The goat. I ran into him at the bank years ago after not afraid dropped & he was the same guy. Even offered me a beat, knowing I could never afford it. I wouldnt be suprised to see him respond, even on here. Respect to 1da

Bro forgot to mention the part where Vory wrote the song lmmfao. That's a major step in this process bro!
-
He just started writing like immediately, and then he rapped it and it was like just yo this shit is crazy, this is the guy. He just heard the beat and he was ready to go” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Y’all didn’t think the references would leak 🤦🏽♂️.
-
that 808 roll made the track imo, sounds like an uzi going off inbetween drake dropping heavy lines, ive definitely learned a bunch from his production on tracks like this and diplomatic immunity

Mob Ties is one of the best productions I've ever heard
