US Vice President Kamala Harris wins enough support to secure the Democratic Party nomination after President Joe Biden bowed out of the race. She launched her campaign with a scathing denunciation of Donald Trump while rival JD Vance tested new lines of attack – Kamala’s immigration record.

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has arrived in the United States ahead of a much-anticipated speech to a joint sitting of the US Congress. In Gaza the death toll rose, after Israel launched a new military campaign in Khan Younis after ordering close half a million people to leave.
