To add a bit to the “Mercy Kill” theory: Looking at the state of the toys, it looks like even though they have blood and flesh, their injuries don’t actually ever heal. They don’t have skin, can’t form scars, so an injury lasts forever. Catnap’s whole body was on fire, and even if he ‘survived’ he wouldn’t recover, he’d be in constant pain.
  • It looked like catnap offered himself to the Prototype based on the postion that catnap was in before his death. It seems that catnap wanted to be one with his god

It seems like it's both with Catnap he's offering his own life to his god but to the prototype we finally gave him the chance to put Catnap out of his misery after years of regret, failure and horror.

Any Ollie theories yet??? How has a child lived in the factory for YEARS???? You hear in their voices that they clearly aged so how is Ollie still a child
  • Catnap 100% offered himself to the Prototype cause I mean- He thought of it as paying the other back from 'saving' him when he was still human. For the Prototype's multiple voices, I'd think they had added multiple people into that 'toy' instead of it collecting voice boxes cause he'd have no reasons for a voice, only needing a body
  • If the prototype is actually good. This could mean the reason it hasn’t killed the protagonist yet is because he knows the protagonist is technically innocent, in every case he’s killed a toy, it’s been in self defense. And we don’t know what role the protagonist has at the factory, but the fact they weren’t at the hour of joy could mean that the prototype warned them of it. Poppy could actually also not be evil, just wanting to put an end when the prototype refuses to let all the people who are still in go. Which would probably include mostly innocent people

I think Prototype simply chose not to waste a tragedy. He seems strong enough to kill any of the other toys any time he wants to, but instead waited until they were dead or dying to collect them. CatNap probably wasn’t going to live long or would have suffered for the rest of his life, so Prototype came to collect and Catnap went willingly.
  • Prototype is definitely multiple people as he says “ you beat US “ not “ you beat me or i “

I did find it weird how Catnap was killed by the prototype as like a sacrifice or something. Like it would’ve made more sense if catnap was left super weak after getting burned alive and he weakly lifted his paw up to prototype and Proto killed catnap afterwards as a mercy kill, but catnap seemed fine after being burned. But the way it is now, looks like catnap is praying to the prototype and it decided to give him the most painful boop I’ve seen
  • Makes me wonder if there are multiple endings to poppy playtime like: "Trust prototype?" or "Trust poppy?" then BOOM we get betrayed by poppy and prototype was the good guy all along. That would be interesting.

    Either
A: Prototype is an uncaring manipulator who does everything for personal gain. Discarding CatNap after he became useless.
B: Prototype genuienly cared about the toys and kids and wanted to free them. Seeing the monster CatNap became he decides to mercy kill him.

Honestly Protypes interview is ambigous and could point to either one of them. Either he is a logical entity who learned to only care about loss and gain. Or he is Savior like entity who wants to protect the kids and kill the evil scientists harming them.
  • I think Ollie may be the prototype trying to make amends, I think thanks to the scientists who were experimenting on him and the kids he viewed all adults as evil, so when the hour of Joy came around he had all the toys eliminate all adults, but after all that like us he probably saw the VHS tapes of those who did care for the kids that's when he realized he made a mistake, I think he was the one who sent that message to the protagonist (because Poppy was stuck in the case at the time) any pointed towards Poppy knowing she would want him dead.

I think that the way catnap was sitting and looking at the prototype could be that he was aware of his death, he didnt grabbed his hand but accepeted his death from his "god" to become a part of him and the prototype had the mercy to put his awful life on the end because after all the time catnap was still suffering and being truely a "bad guy".

I think the Prototype is Elliot. He actually loved the kids, he wanted to bring them joy, but we was probably sick or close to retirement when they started doing these darker experiments. He might have been forced by some other members of staff to volunteer to be an experiment to science, given how intelligent Elliot was, he built an entire empire, the scientists and others like Leith would see him best for a prototype experiment.

So, I think The Hour Of Joy was possibly meant to not be a violent outburst, but because the toys were kids, they couldn't control themselves so they just went on a rampage with the staff. Elliot if he was the prototype, could have disabled security systems thinking that the toys/kids would run and be free, but they never did. I think it could be him, especially as the way he speaks to the scientist too, he said 'Absolutely! I learn something new about you everyday'. It sounds as if it's Elliot, from the way he speaks.

Poppy herself said that if we try to leave the prototype kill us meaning that hes probably able to do this any time. Yet he still let us live. In chapter 2 is another case where he could have grabbed our legs and take us when he took mommy long legs remains. So i have a doubt that hes evil.
  • Idk why no one is talking about the tape where Ms. Delight talks with CatNap! He’s claims the children weren’t killed by the toys in the hour of joy! Ms. Delight asks are the children okay and CatNap says “yes” and that they aren’t in the same place as the adults! Maybe the Prototype is holding them prisoner. Poppy says several times that fighting the prototype will “save a lot of people” so the orphans might be alive.

I like the parallels of Theodore getting electrocuted by the grab pack and turned into catnap. And then is electrocuted as catnap.
  • @Thegreategg1
I think that catnap offered his own body to the prototype, he knows that the prototype is collecting parts of other toys to add to his own body, and knowing catnap idolises the prototype as a god, becoming a part of him would be an honor to cat nap
  • @SMarie-zk9oj
If the prototype just wants to help but is accidentally creating monsters that would be so tragic, it’s far more disturbing and depressing when the “monster” actually just wants to help but can’t do so properly which results in psychopathic yandare’s like catnap which would give more depth to why it killed Catnap because he had become a monster.

My theory is that, Catnap just wanted us to go away and leave him and the prototype alone... Case in point him saying "leave" and instead of taking/defeating us, he let us go. But we continued on, which leads to the confrontation before the elevator and confrontation.

The prototype probably felt "betrayed", and the reason why catnap felt fear at first when the prototype showed up. But still considering the prototype as a god, he instead let the prototype give his punishment for him... By defeating him and taking him away, presumably to assimilate him.
