Thanks, Al. Despite three spine surgeries, I’m still losing feeling in my legs. I was afraid I was going to lose my driving ability. You give me a lot of hope here.

I'm a RAKA and use hand controls. Hand controls that you PUSH to brake are much safer than controls you PULL to brake. When you need to stop quickly, your body tends to move forward. If you need to PULL the brake lever back towards you you are going against the forward motion of your body. If you're moving forward and PUSHING forward on the control you're taking advantage of your centrifugal force to help you brake. If you had both legs, you'd PUSH with your foot to brake so your subconscious reaction you've used for years is to PUSH to brake. PULLING to brake requires you to reprogram your brain. Your natural reaction is to PUSH, NOT PULL

So glad I found these hand controls. A neurological condition left my legs weak & numb, so driving has been a bit scary. During a relapse, I panicked & threw my car into park to avoid bumping the car in front of me at a drive-thru. I forgot about the emergency brake, and throwing it into park caused it to make a horrible sound. After a few more close-calls, I did a search. Thanks for this video. Being right-handed, I installed mine "backwards" as well, and it's a very comfortable drive. What a difference!
  • thanks Al I had a tumor removed from my spinal cord new years 2016 and lost feeling in my legs but I can move them but where they are was my problem WELL after seeing your video and I found the control on eBay life is much better now I never liked asking for rides bless you and yours 🍺
  • The hand controls you have give me hope that I might be able to drive one day! All the other stick ones I’ve seen look very challenging for me.

You may have noticed that I've installed these backwards. I've done this because I have greater control of the braking function by using my entire hand pulling the handle towards me, rather that one or two fingers pushing it. This doesn't interfere with the way the controls function.

Thanks a lot Al, I just had surgery for a ruptured Achilles tendon rupture a few weeks ago and am in a cast and a boot for a lengthy amount of time.. You just set me free Man!!! Thanks Big Time!!!

I have a disability and I was told I’d have to have hand controls this makes me very excited
  • Thank you for sharing/making this video. Today is the day to finally do this and place this order. Driving for me is getting a little more difficult in moving my foot from brake to gas and this will entirely give me back my freedom...I am thinking...!
  • @medicalbulkbuy
It will be really useful video for the people who want to drive with no leg moment. Thanks

I have very similar set. Never actually tried it so far, as automatic is so easy, epecially with cruise control (my previous ar was manual with no fancy things like CC), didn't had the necessity until recently, but now my MS seem to be progressing on my right foot too. 🙄

Thank you - you helped me. Yurek from Poland

Now (Jan30-19) available on EBAY for only $70. Just a warning, there is noway you can stop the car by pulling if you're going 60mph and someone jumps on the road. Accident waiting to happen. Brake must only be pushes on the left.
  • Of all the hand controls I’ve ever had it’s always been Push to Brake and Pull to Accelerate… stands to reason that erring on the side of safety would mean push = brake. It’s possible you’ve installed them incorrectly.
  • I turned them around so it's push to break and pull to gas. Felt a lot more comfortable

Thanks for this video, Al! It should be included with the Freedom Staff video. They only show how to install it but not how to use it.
