S RANK! Hell yeah! Part 2 -    • PC GAMEPLAY - METAL GEAR SOLID V Phan...
Check out the performance of MGS V PP running on a LAPTOP!

I've tried to keep my commentary to a MINIMUM so you can enjoy the dramatic opening of the game :)

The game is pretty well optimized. Here's my thoughts about the performance from my blog on GiantBomb.com -

"So I just got this game a while back, and have played about an hour till now (basically the whole Prologue) I've never played an MGS game before, so everything looks completely crazy to a newcomer like me :P

Still, I can see I'll enjoy the game - there's great background score accompanying the cutscenes, very good pace and build up to each moment, and it's all directed in a very appealing manner. Each moment is felt. Whether its your character slowly crawling along the floor, stumbling and knocking over things as he tries to stand, or it's a car going out of control in a cutscene.

I loved the moment where the open world basically... opens up for exploration. The first mission is a rescue mission, and the way it's presented is emotional and very well done. As a newcomer, I'm baffled by some things, but yet the story seems easy enough to follow right now.

As for the performance, I'm running the game on a very humble, mid-range laptop. The specs are -

nVidia GT650m (2gb)
Core i7 @ 2.4ghz
8gb RAM

The game runs pretty well according to me (and the system) As a direct comparison, it's performance is similar to GTA V on PC. It worked great on older PCs and gave me about 40fps on medium settings. Sometimes that would go to 50fps (near ocean) and could even drop to 20-30 while driving.

I'm running this on medium settings as well, and have seen it settle at 40 when in a simple room. Near fire/ smoke though, it drops quite heavily to the 20s. I'll be locking the framerate to 30 through MSI. Also, I'm sure as days go by i'll be able to squeeze a pretty stable framerate from the game. As of now, I'm pretty damn happy (especially after the framerate issues I suffered with The Witcher 3)"

Wikipedia page about the game -

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is an open world action-adventure stealth video game developed by Kojima Productions and directed, designed, co-produced and co-written by Hideo Kojima, for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. MGS5 is the eleventh canonical installment in the Metal Gear series and the fifth within the series' chronology. It serves as a sequel to Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, and a continuation of the narrative established there, and a prequel to the original Metal Gear game. It carries over the tagline of Tactical Espionage Operations first used in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Set in 1984, the game follows the mercenary leader Punished "Venom" Snake as he ventures into Afghanistan and the Angola—Zaire border region to exact revenge on the people who destroyed his forces and came close to killing him during the climax of Ground Zeroes.
