Pocky & Rocky Reshrined is a brand new remake of the 1992 SNES game by Natsume. Following Wild Guns Reloaded and The Ninja Warriors Once Again, the original developers have once again returned to one of their classics and completely overhauled every aspect of it. As usual, they've done a fantastic job with all of the changes and improvements they've made. They've added new playable characters (all with unique weapons and special attacks), new stages, new mechanics, and they even seem to have implemented a good scoring system, complete with online leaderboards. I just wish they'd create separate leaderboards for Normal and Hard mode; mixing them together is dumb.

This is a playthrough of Free Mode with one of the new characters, Hotaru Gozen. He's a bit different from the rest of the characters since he's melee oriented, so his primary attack doesn't have long distance. He's still very strong though. His swipe does a lot of damage and has a wide arc, so it tends to keep you safer than anyone else's wand attack. He can shoot some arrows when you need a long range attack too by rapidly tapping the shot button - this can be really useful on some parts, especially the final boss. The red arrows are really good against him, but I screwed up and accidentally picked up blue while throwing his spinning blade. That's another really good move of his though. I picked up a few of the hidden items I missed in my previous video, so the bonus points from that made up for some of my sloppiness, lol.

This game won't be out in America for at least another month (for PS4 and Switch), but if you don't want to wait, you can get it right now on the Japanese PSN or eshop for around 4100 yen, fully translated into English (and without the censored character portrait, lol). I'm playing on the PS5, by the way.

This has to be one of the most adorable looking games ever made. It makes me want to learn to draw in this style.

Who needs a 3D remake when you can have a great 2D remake over a great 2D game?

Btw, you got ps5? I'm so jealous, well i guess you will have more games to play in the future ;)
  • Wow! You're just phenomenal, even with Hotaru. The farthest I've ever gotten with her before a game over is stage 7.

What's the point of the dog you jump on at the beginning? I've started avoiding getting it because I can't figure out its purpose besides messing me up and getting hit

Curious. What type of controller/control scheme do you use?
  • @aoshi000
How do you unlock hotaru gozen? I beat the game on normal but she's still not selectable in free mode yet. Do you need to get 10k coins to unlock her?
