I bet you didn't know this about Shenyang!

I've been to Shenyang a number of times and visited the palace years ago, thanks for reminding me about it, I'll probably go for another visit soon. China is an amazing place with so many "hidden gems" places to visit that are full of surprises. Living in China for 25 years now I've been lucky enough to have visited over a hundred towns and cities and villages in this country, mostly well off the beaten tourist track. I just got back from a road trip where I drove 4 days from Beijing to Hainan Island for CNY and 4 days back just me and my dog. We stopped in Kaifeng both ways because it has one of the rare Chinese hotels that will accept larger dogs. This turned out to be a lucky thing and Kaifeng is now on my Must visit again list because what I discovered while I was there is that Kaifeng was the Northern Song Dynasty capital from the 10th to 12th century! Unfortunately, my dog was not going to be permitted entry so I couldn't visit the historical sites this time but it's ok, I will go back. I highly recommend traveling around this country to anyone, you never know what you are going to find!

Anyone visiting Shenyang please go walk around the old buildings near the train station . Many bronze sculptures on the street and you may have a drink at an American bar .

Thanks, I supposed this once significant palace of the Qing Dynasty was somehow overlooked by many. The Peking Forbidden Palace is all I know. North East China had seen many struggles in the wars of China vs Japanese and even old Russia. Pretty intriguing.

True for me. I have never been to Shenyang nor had I ever heard of Mukden Palace, until now, thanks to you! You did a great job of showing us this beautiful place, which looks like a small version of the Forbidden City in Beijing. I guess only some of the rooms are open to the public.

I don't remember it looking that pretty! They might have improved it more in the last 10 years.
