The Secret Sawmill Band Cleaner You Didn't Know About! Secrets of Sawmilling Pros - Sawmills in Action! Make Money With a Sawmill! - Secrets of the Pros and showing Sawmills in Action! I'm Robert Milton, "The Sawmill Professor," a professional sawmiller and business owner who teaches sawmill tips and tricks to make your lumber as good as ours at Hobby Hardwood Alabama - ranked as producing the highest quality wood in Alabama, if not the country.    / @hobbyhardwoodalabama  . I am a retired aerospace engineer, my wife is a retired engineer at NASA, and we are a multimillion dollar, Dunn and Bradstreet listed, A+ rated BBB business. We used to build very high end houses and furniture using our lumber, but now sell it retail all over the country, and teach others to do the same.
We started with a chainsaw mill, upgraded to a portable manaul sawmill, then a production bandsaw mill. We are not a video company, but we are a real lumber company, and want to show others some of our money making and business sawmill techniques. This video is another example of sawmilling for our business, Hobby Hardwood, Alabama. We show how we mill logs, dry them and other things on our outdoor farm.

No matter when I check in to learn more, The Professor is always providing top shelf teaching. I'm gonna try Cotton Picker Spindle Cleaner on my table saw carbide blades yo keep them cleaner. Be back soon for another fix.
  • Brilliant ! Thanks Robert - that is just the stuff I was looking for and the explanation of why and how it works was very helpful, especially to an amateur like me.
  • Thanks for the tip on saw blades out of the woods said your the man on sawmills I believe it
  • I was using an oily solution before and it works like a charm... very good tip and helps a lot. Diesel - im not a big fan of it - although my brand of sawmill writes it in red-blot letters - DO NOT USE DIESEL... because of drive belts, rubber things getting messed up etc... which makes sense to me. What i really like about your channel is - you are not telling this "you must do this and that ..." or "thats the best blalbalbalba"... you are sharing valuable information just like everybody of us would stand infront of you - thats becoming so rear at youtube - no bullshit centent creator stuff but simple saying honest opinion about a topic. PLEASE keep this attitude and this type of content coming. I also like (and this is not meant negativ in any sense/way) not high gloss 3000 animation cinematic video production style. Plain - straight forward, honest content sharing - thats it - great!

I've heard Nathan mention it, but now that I hear that's what the professor is using, I will too! No disrespect to Nathan, but now it's settled.
  • I've been using cotton spindle cleaner for the past year and it works great on my mill. In the winter months I mixed it with windshield washer to prevent freezing.
  • Mr.Milton. You have caused me to think back to when I was growing up. We used crosscut saws to fell some of the trees. The yellow pines, some 24 to 36 inch diameter, would gum up the saw teeth and rakers to the point that you couldn't pull the saw. Especially when the moon was waxing or full.. We would take a coke bottle, we called it a dope bottle, and fill it half full of coal oil or kerosene. Then we would stuff green pine straw into the neck of the bottle to make a brush. A third person would apply this to the saw blade as the two workers pulled the saw. This would keep the pine pitch from sticking ti the saw. The additive Mr. Wood mizer uses sounds like a graphite solution that metal workers use to cause drill bits cut smoother and longer before dulling.. Just a coup[e of ounces mixed in a gallon of water turns it to milk. Great video. I intend to try the spindle cleaner. I see Chip hid during the video. He knows why that puppy is there and he's thinking he may be on his way out. Ha!Ha! Thanks Mr. Milton I believe this will extend the blade life and keep.it sharp longer. Another great video!!!

  • Thanks! Commented in a previous video I'd try the spindle cleaner on my saw chains...I'll try to find a local source this week for just 1 gallon to try out. Tobacco is sticky too. I'm curious to find out if useful for other equipment maintenance/cleaning.

  • @throngcleaver
Great info, Robert! I have a brand X machine and had serious issues, until I turned the water/soap completely off. It runs great now, but the bands get pretty dirty. All I've cut so far, is white and black oak. I'm going to find some spindle cleaner right now. Thanks! 😁
  • @rf8driver
I found a product but my comment never posted. Not sure why, but here is another thought. I use a soluble oil as a dormant fruit tree spray. It is available everywhere. Think I will give it a try.
  • Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and surfactants are used in the printing industry to re- duce the surface tension of the fountain solution and thus to promote wetting of the printing plate and the rubber blanket [3]. Add about 10% alchohol, maybe more maybe less, see if that doesn’t help wet out the blade even better.
  • @johnaddis1022
I use the same stuff for my metal cutting saws too! either way band blades stay clean and cooler also use it in the coolant cup at my bench grinders.
