Swapping my pedalboard for the Boss RC600

FYI as part of getting setup I dived into JP's RC600 course which I think got culled in the edit, and was part of me getting up and running nice and smoothly:

...and this is JP's channel on all things Boss 600 as well as live looping on various different pedals:

In particular modelled my bass tone (plus a few adjustments and EQ) from Ross Gallaghers vid:
   • How to ACHIEVE a GOOD GUITAR to BASS ...

and many many more from prior to getting the pedal to understand the basics and overall setup of the pedal.

Also for those that are reading this and want the price and description on Amazon then here it is:

So... the important things - do I now recommend the RC600... yep - with perhaps some caveats... there are still some glitches, and yes there's a massive learning curve (I did a lot of mine before getting to pedal tbh). My biggest issue with it overall is what I would consider a real failure in the routing options, but that will be for another video - and doesn't impact being able to use this well for shows - just means it's not really an upgrade from the rc300 in that regard in my opinion*.

There's some great new tools in the mix, and the sound quality is ace, and at the end of the day the customization is really the winner - as you figure out what you want and get it setup, you can switch all the buttons to do what you want them to be tailored to your needs.

*this point will be somewhat dependant on how you setup your loops also just fyi - for some people it will open up some cool options rather than frustration haha!

So - where is everybody else at with it? haha.

I just got the 600 and I came here looking for some inspiration. So nice to see your name pop up! That jam at the end is fantastic too. Big love, buddy!
  • @mhorvy
Congrats on the switch! Love your videos, and stoked to see where the RC-600 takes ya!
  • @LiveLoopers
What a wonderfully portable time to be alive. More and more though those adjustments made to "help preserve brain space" are going to become absolutely vital.
  • Hey, great to see you are back! Your videos really inspire me! So much that I’ve started doing open mic nights. I have a VL3, but I’m still not using it. Just getting it set up still. (Have been for over a year now) I’m about to watch this video, and am afraid I’m going to want want one of these.
  • David, great video, explaining the RC. I’m running a small home studio in The Netherlands, have a lot of gear, I’m a synth / piano / organ player. Lot’s of synths / keys. But also have other stuff like acoustic, electric guitars, bass, sax, Roland SPD SX Pro pad, Helix FX pedal and some other stuff. But I was always thinking about looping, no matter what instrument. So after a lot of reviews I decided to buy the RC. So now, it’s the fifth of may, and saw a lot of RC movies on YouTube, and yours came by. Really good video, about how you set it up, and what you can do with it. And, btw, really nice editing of the video.
  • Great you're back, David! I mean, videos showing a guy eating chocolate and talking about random stuff while still providing super useful information...Who doesn't like that! Have now started setting up the RC-600 myself, but now I'll change to some of your settings. Thanks and all the best!
  • @sugarprobe
Awesome. I’ve missed your vids. I’m still not loving it and miss my Headrush but it’s pretty good. Waaaaay more compact and weight friendly. Looking forward to learning from you.
  • @jahstix
Great to see u bud, ur VL3 Vidz were clutch &mnow I’m also moving to rc600
  • @NickleRock
Awesome. I'm so glad you started using it and SOOOO glad you posted another video. Enjoy the new journey!
  • Glad to see you back man! Was thinking of graduating from the RC-50 to the RC-300 but might jump all the way to the 600 after this demo.
  • Thanks for this, some really good tips here. Could you possibly do a video with the settings for your lead tones, they sound really good.
  • @markbell1
Craziness! lol. Best of luck with the switch :). I still cannot leave my VL3X behind!
  • @tonybowen
Great video. Definitely going to evolve how I’m using it after seeing this.
  • Good to see you again mate. 👍This subject is so interesting. The only thing that would make me replace my current huge pedal board (Boss RC-500 as looper) would be if I can replace all pedals with only the Boss RC-600. The limitations with the harmonizer is the first obvious problem for me. I wonder if this really could be fixed with only software update. I would guess there are hardware limitations in the product as well. Why wouldn’t they have included this in the fist place. Boss has at least three other pedals that can do this. The auto harmonizer based on MIDI is just a joke. What kind of real life scenario is that? Looking forward to the sequels mate.🤘
  • Excellent video, David, and thank you kindly for the shout-out! I'm looking forward to seeing how you're getting on with things in future vids. Cheers, Ross.
  • Wow, you made that look easy. Gonna be rewatching this video and thinking about what I'd like to lift from your set up. The FX stuff was very interesting. Just out of curiosity: Did you consider bringing all six loop REC/PLAY onto the six pedals in one mode? And if so, what made you not do that?
  • @PaulNose
Amazing video man! And btw I love your feel playing guitar! 😊
  • Sweet! Looking for to the sequels. One question up front: Does the unit also do proper vocal harmonies, similar to the VE-500?
  • Great to know you're using your new looper on stage. Great video explaining the layers and effects etc in the looper. Wish I had or could afford a boss rc600. Will have to do with my rc300 for now which I haven't yet used for a live show. Just a question David since you say you use layers by pressing the same button. Are the lights on the unit visible in direct sunlight or under color lighting on stage ???
  • @BillOlson-nx4gx
Thanks David, Great video, I'm loving my RC 600, although I am way underutilising it's functions, but I will get there .
