For me, the most important tip and the one that is almost always overlooked is, know yourself! What kind of plant parent do you want/need to be? Are you retired and have plenty of time to devote to plant care, or are you a single mum with 3 children working full time? Are you a helicopter plant parent who loves to tend to your plants daily, or are you looking for something that looks good with minimal care? Do you like to take nice long vacations several times a year, or is your home your staycation destination? Realistically, how much time, energy, and money do you want to put into plant care? Knowing who you are and what you're able to achieve puts everything else into focus.
  • @Simba.alex.
You Are (in ma opinion) the most aware and passionate plant dad on Youtube ā¤
  • šŸˆ šŸ˜» šŸˆā€ā¬›ļø love your tutorials! I've been gardening over 45 years & even as a seasoned gardner I learn something new EVERYTIME I WATCH your videos.... GAME CHANGERšŸŽ‰

Finally someone who really explains why its so important to have the perfekt conditions for plants, this is why i had a lot of problems with so many plants In germany, especially in winter and especially in my flat i just dont get a lot of light and heat, so plants like alocasias just will not thrive here, even though i LOVE them, i had to get rid of all of them, now i only have plants where i know, they will live and thrive even in the colder months Also, i work in a garden center and when people ask me how to care for a plant, oh boy, they are overwhelmed when i ask them, well, how are your conditions, how is the light, is it warm, is it cold, how far from a window is it standing and so on And you wont believe how many people come in and ask me which plants can live in room with NO windows... Well.. Fakeplants
  • When I clean our fish tanks, I save the "dirty" water for the plants. That's the only fertilizer I use and my plants have never looked better! šŸˆ šŸ˜» šŸˆā€ā¬›ļø šŸ˜ŗ šŸ± šŸ˜ø
  • Dont ever be sorry for your passion that's why we're here and keep coming back. I love it so thank you for sharing from your heart Janā¤. I am in NZ and we have GT foliage here which is what I use.

I find the whole Fungus Gnat issue interesting. I grew up in a home with soil plants and not a bug in sight. I'm in my 50's and have had plants since moving out of home in soil and no issue. The Fungus Gnat plague seems to have appeared in the last 6 years or so which means something has changed in the production of the soil. I went semi hydro to and no more FG

GT foliage focus is AAAAH MAAZ ING! Total game changer! Bought their products for my orchids too and they've never been happier! 10/10!~
  • @Ravenelvenlady
Wonderful list, thank you. I DO buy store bought soil, as it is economical for me. I just STERILIZE the soil before use. I have no major issues with fungus gnats since I do that, as well as use mosquito bits (especially if I top water the plants).
  • Its like love - the reality of love - no matter what you do, if the 'conditions ' aren't right, it will die...šŸ„°
  • Excellent Jan & Brad. I think the first time conditions really hit home for me was when I shifted into a totally different style of house as well. I moved from a modern sun drenched, well insulated house to an old house with high ceilings not bad light but definitely not as well insulated. The plants I had in the modern house & were thriving absolutely hated their new home so I had to make adjustments in their placements & buy grow lights to get everything back on an even keel. Big learning curve šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚
  • @EmjayStudios
šŸˆI'm always referring back to your plant spotlight/care vids and then adjusting to my conditions(QLD) Even how you style your plants is a big help! Love chucking your channel up on the big screen
  • I always research the plants natural habitat and conditions. It makes all the difference!! I also (personally) dont like bark in plants. I was just telling a friend that I feel like that's where a lot of mold and gnat issues start. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø
  • @perthian
I have Oxalis Triangularis envy. As soon as I see one or three at the local garden centre, I'm in the club!
  • Bless your cotton socks! You are such a great person. Just in time, you gave me such a necessary piece of advice!! ā¤love your Chanel!!!
