It’s unbelievable what Mariah and her family went through during her childhood! I’m just so glad Patricia decided to marry Alfred Carey! They gave us one of the world’s greatest singers, songwriters, and producers ever!

The pain in Mariah's face is discernible and heart-breaking.

Mariah is so quiet here. This must have been difficult to have to hear her mother tell this story on national television.
  • "Any child of mine is going to be discriminated against." Powerful words. No matter who Mariah's father married and had children with, he knew the outcome would be the same.
  • It's heartbreaking to hear this, it's so unfair to be judged for skin color. This world is shit.
  • This Oprah interview confirmed the fact that Mariah was born in 1970. Her mother, Patricia said it herself. A mother won’t lie or forget on her child’s birth year.

"Any child of mine will be discriminated against." That is absolutely heartbreaking and a disgusting reality of this racist country.
  • This would be so much better if Oprah would let the guest talk without bombarding her with questions before she’s even finished

Both Mariah and her mom are very beautiful. Mariah has always been one of my top artists. Her mom and dad made a beautiful child. And most of Mariah's music is considered clean and cheerful.

And look at what MC has done now. Through her career, she has solidified her existence and message that love conquers all. ❤🎉

“Any child of mine will be discriminated against”….. This is a hard pill to swallow in reference to the TRUTH of the US.

Mariah Carey’s book brought me here.
  • Never have I ever thought that the reason why Mariah composed "through the rain" was all about her parents struggles to have their relationship become accepted by the people around them. I realized that the song and the music video made for it clearly depicts the ups and downs of her family's uphill battle against discrimination. Mariah is absolutely genius.

In the 70’s a black family moved in the neighborhood and the daughter and I became good friends. One day I walked down to visit and seen a burnt cross in the yard and they were gone. It was a mom, dad, sister & brother. Sweet people. I was so sad. That was my first experience with racism. It happened in Davie, Fl. 💔😢🙏

❤❤❤ I love Mariah. I am so sorry she and others had to suffer this. What a great gift she is to the world! I am so grateful for her! God bless Mariah! Prayers.

That she told Mariah she would be lucky to have half the musical career she had and now look, she's not known for singing. She's known for being one of the greatest singers of our times mom. Should have been humble and supportive of the talent she birthed...instead she was small and jealous. Sad.
  • ‘I just though it was the right thing to do’ Yes, and so do other millions of people around the world who wouldn’t have had the chance to have this angel in their life if it wasn’t for you. 🙏🏾 🌸😍
