Very rare footage of Mickey Mantle and Yogi Berra at bats during game 4 of the 1961 WS in Cincinnati's Crosley Field. For Mantle, it will end up to be his LAST at bat in that World Series. Mel Allen and Joe Garagiola doing the PBP for NBC.

Life was good in '61. Riding bikes, baseball in the park, out all day until it got too dark, dad was always home from work in time for dinner with the family.

Mantle got a nice hand from the Cincinnati fans. Classy.

No Jewelry, no batting gloves, no wasting time between pitches. Just talent.

Classy Cincinnati Reds fans, appreciating Mickey Mantle and applauding him when he gets taken out of the game for a pinch runner!
  • This World Series was played in the afternoon, I was just a kid then, I would bring a small transistor radio to school and listen to the games at lunch time or in study hall

Maris, Mantle, Howard, Berra, 1961 Yankees were one of the all time great teams.
  • In 1961 I was 12 years old. My Father was a big Yankee fan and he took me to games in Cleveland every year. He took me to Pittsburgh in 1960 for the World Series (my Mom was a big Pirates fan) and the took me to Cincinnati in 1961 for the World Series. I loved Mickey Mantle when I was a kid and thank my Father for the opportunities he gave me to see him play. Thanks Pops, God rest your soul. Just for the record, I am a die hard Detroit Tigers fan!

My favorite player, ever. We used to listen to the games on transistor radio while at school games are played during the day because TV did not rule the schedule

My God does this bring back some great memories. You're right real baseball. I truly miss it.

This is tremendous quality footage. If you are a fan of baseball and baseball history you have to love seeing this. I was only 3 years old at this time, 6 years before I became a baseball fan. I wish there was more footage like this from the early-mid 60's.
  • I was 9 years old in 61 & these were the 1st Yankee players I fell in love with. Went to my very 1st Game at The Stadium (via The Boy’s Club) when I was 10. Mick was my fave!

Boy, that is nice to hear. A bat, ball, and glove along with a transistor radio nearby was a great afternoon.

Such a wonderful time for baseball and our country....kids could grow up in an innocent way.
  • This was when baseball was baseball without politics and nuances as today…..they were remembered hero’s of young and old….even today.
  • Wow Mel Allen and Joe Garagiola doing the World Series. That's good stuff right there.

Mickey Mantle worked at a lumber yard during the off season to make ends meet. If he played today, he'd be crazy rich.

I was 8 years old when this game was played. Mantle was my idol of that period. Heck of a lineup for the opposing pitcher to face.
