I'm damn happy they didn't kill Charlie off. We have all grown up with casualty and loved seeing Charlie doing what he did best and he was the heart and soul of the show. It's going to be strange not seeing him now

The guy Charlie/Derek hugs on the way out is Pete Salt, the medical advisor for the show and who Charlie is actually based on. He didn't know he was going to be there and the reaction is as genuine as it looks. Lovely touch.

First time Charlie met Stevie was when she was a child. Fate brought them back together. Charlie’s last episode made me cry so much. However, I’m happy they didn’t kill him off ❤😢😢😢😢😢❤

Charlie is a character from my childhood that I grew up watching and inspired my career in the NHS. I haven’t watched Casualty for a very long time, probably since late teens early 20s when life took over but every now and then I’d see a clip or whatever and usually Charlie was there and I’d be blown away that he was still going. I’m 42 now and think Charlie Fairhead might be the longest TV character I’ve ever known. What a beautiful ending to a beautiful career for Derek Thompson. ❤

I cannot say how much it means to me that Charlie Fairhead actually got to retire. I was so SO afraid they were going to kill him off like they did Duffy, Baz and others. All of his fights, all of his struggles boht personal and professional would have been absolutely pointless had they killed him off. Now I can watch past episodes knowing his career and personal life end on a high note. Of all the Character I have grown to love over the years, of all of them Charlie Fairhead deserved a wonderful ending. Much love from one extremely happy bunny. 🥰💝

I might not pay for a TV license any longer, and as such don't watch BBC live TV, but Casualty was a part of my growing up. Watched it almost religiously. What a great send off.

This wasn’t just Charlie saying goodbye. It was Derek saying goodbye to the cast and crew 🥲 Bye Bye Charlie. Bye Bye Derek. I have a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes (again) watching this again. Charlie was my favourite and Derek played him perfectly. Will miss him so much 💔

It must be 20 years since I last saw an episode of Casualty (no reason, just got out of the habit of it as a teenager), but this has still made me emotional! Charlie was the character I always remembered and associated with it. I don't know if Derek is retiring too, but if so, I wish him well :)

Charlie has almost passed away in hospital from after 37 years of his congratulations he's orthopaedic with a heart condition he looks really tired he felt sleepy after his surgery but he's now Brave and really Strong-willed with a Happy life Charlie won't never regret for anything he's done in the future 💙 😢 💔 ❤ 😅🎉 Connie looked after him that's a Wonderful thing to do of her
