As someone who has anxiety, this is a pretty accurate depiction of what going through my mind.

As someone who’s on the autism spectrum, and deals with anxiety often enough (not like everyday, all the time, but still often enough) I can say with confidence, that Anxiety in this movie is Spot on! Like, i love the character, but the actual emotion is such a pain to deal with, Ugh. I’ve been dealing with anxiety much more since the start of last year, and it’s Annoying to deal with. I’ve had to take medications to help me sleep at time because anxiety is such a pain in the neck. It’s also very common for autistic people to have much stronger anxiety than neurotypical people, man I hate it. I just wanna be Optimistic and calm.

I’m noticing that Joy really has a mature way of handling Anxiety within Riley’s mind—healthy compartmentalizing. Since it doesn’t show Riley needing to talk to a therapist about coping skills, it makes me think that this is probably how the minds of people without an anxiety disorder are able to self-regulate. (lucky them!) As someone with GAD, my most emotional moment during the movie was when Joy sat Anxiety down in that chair.
