Published 2024-03-07
From six hour round-trips every day to London for a sport he'd never really played before, to being the first ever international recruit to the prestigious University of Oklahoma to continue his American Football career. This is the story of the next big talent out of the NFL Academy, Daniel Akinkunmi.

Daniel Akinkumni is London-born with Nigerian heritage and joined the NFL Academy in the summer of 2021. He is an offensive lineman and plays across all five positions on the line.

Daniel moved up to Doncaster, and so when in his first year in the NFL Academy while it was still in London, he was commuting over 5 hours a day back and forth to attend lessons and practice. He was prepping his meals for the day and would heat them up using a portable microwave on the train.

He was a mainstay in the NFL Academy starting team and has been on tour with the Academy three times for camps (Baltimore/Philadelphia, Texas and Georgia) and this exposure earned him over 35+ Division 1 scholarship offers inc. Oklahoma, Baylor, Duke, Miami, Clemson, Ole Miss, Penn State and many more.

He was also selected and played in the high school All-American game this January.

He signed with Oklahoma last December and is currently there settling in and building towards the college season start in August.

Based in Loughborough, the NFL Academy is a unique programme that gives aspiring young American football players and outstanding athletes the chance to develop their skills and education.
