‘Communist-style regime’: Lucy Zelic blasts Olympics trans language guidelines

Published 2024-06-13
Broadcaster Lucy Zelic has accused the International Olympics Committee of running a “communist-style regime” after it recommended media organisations use trans-friendly language to describe people.

The IOC told journalists not to refer to athletes as being “born male” or “biologically male” in reports.

Ms Zelic criticised attempts by sporting bodies and the media to “obscure the truth” about trans athletes participating in women’s sports.

“There are a vast range of issues across the board here that need addressing and it is why I have been very outspoken about it,” she told Sky News host Chris Kenny.

D Day gets one day for remembrance. Gay pride gets one month. THIS IS NOT RIGHT NOR HUMAN.

Women don't use the term trans, men do. So referring to Leah Thomas as he is accurate and not misgendering. So no need to refer to him as her.

Discriminates against Men and Women, yet think's "its" being discriminated against?

Why do we have to preface statements by saying we aren’t “anti-trans”? Whether anyone agrees with it or not, we are all allowed to be as anti-anything as we wish. The government cannot compel anyone to “like” anything. Is hatred bad and not necessarily conducive to us all getting along? Sure. But you cannot compel any other person to “think” the way you believe they should. I’m tired of hearing I’m “anti” whatever because I don’t agree with someone’s political, ideological, philosophical, religious or personal position. And I’ll be as “anti-trans” as I wish. Get over yourselves already…
  • I haven't watched the Olympics for twenty years, seems like I'm not alone

A podcast host suggested to stop using the term "transgender" altogether. You can't cross sexes and using a meaningless word lends even more credence to the subject.

Stop referring to them with the wrong pronouns. This way you create sentences like: "She should not be allowed to compete to woman." Or "She should not be allowed in the womens dressing room". What kind of nonsense language are you helping creating this way???

What an incredible, intelligent, brave woman. It was a pleasure to hear her sum up the feelings of the Australian people completely. More from her please.

Politicians need to grow a set and lay down some common sense rules.

If Lucy zelic checks the comments. I'm a coach of 7-8 year old girls and we had to play against Fremantle and they put 3 "trans " kids on their team and there was another young "trans" kid on the sideline. I've never seen more than 1 in 1 place, femantle managed to get 4 of the same age ! Social contagion is strong in greeny fremantle.
  • I can’t believe Australia is going down this path! Males playing in female sports is unfair! Lucy, thanks for standing up for women and girls.
