This NHL Stanley Cup Final is greasy

The NHL Stanley Cup Final between the Edmonton Oilers and the Florida Panthers is getting downright greasy. While we saw plenty of clean, big hits in this game 2 we also got some questionable ones. Leon Draisaitl hitting Sasha Barkov up high with an elbow will certainly be talked about for days, we also got 2-3 knee on knee hits, McDavid popping Tkachuk in a scrum, Nurse taken out with a hit, Bouchard held in a headlock while forced to tap, a questionable no call on a delay of game that would have resulted in a 5 on 3 for the Oilers, Charles Barkley dropping an F bomb on live TV and more. It was a wild game 2 in Florida and I cover it all in todays NHL hockey video!

Delay of game penalty - During the CBC broadcast, Ron Maclean (level 5 official) explained that this was a penalty based on the contact of the shot occurring before the blue line. I agreed with that and found the rule book to further this argument. The determining factor is where the puck position was when it was shot. My interpretation initially was that this would be the first point of contact, but the counter argument is that the position of the puck is determined by last contact of stick not initial contact of stick. That does make sense and in that case, the right call was made. I appreciate the discourse!

Bobrovsky: "Don't worry, I give them 1 for free"

Ekman-Larsson was NOT called for a knee on knee. He was called for tripping. There was zero knee on knee contact.

Drai is going to have plot armor in this narrative.

It's almost like it takes more than 2 players to win a cup

One thing that can not be understated is how well the Panthers have neutralised McDavid and Drai Imo even game one, even though the Oilers were very active offensively, the game never felt like it was out of the Panthers' control. This game they just dialed it up more all over the board and the Oilers were just always 2 steps behind and had to resort to dirty play because of their frustrations

Ekbald forcing Bouchard to tap out is the perfect representation for how this series is going to end LOL

As a Stars fan, nothing brings me as much joy as the Florida Panthers.

Refs were 💯 too scared of the drama to give Draisatl a match penalty for the Barkov elbow, his skates left the ice as he exploded upward into the hit and primary contact was Barkov's head. It should be an open shut case for suspension. 3 - 5 games.

Florida wants it too much Edmonton doesn't have that desire

Will Edmonton score more goals in this series than the Rangers did in the Eastern Conference Finals? This Panthers team is great; 3 High Quality Centers, puck moving defensemen, team speed, physicality across the roster, filthy plays, Bob standing on his head.

Nice report! You actually showed the WHOLE story, including the dirty grease. I’ll be watching.

Nobody should complain about “too many” penalties because we know how terrible too few calls is… If there’s a penalty it should be called no matter the person or the game in which it’s played. These are professionals who know the rules, they should act like it.

Draisaitl finally got a penalty against him? Go watch the Dallas series and dude got away with 3 penalties a game for 6 games.

The Panthers play a really good game, but I think if Bobrovsky was on the oilers it may have been a different scenario. He truly is next level.
