Thanks to Shaun Kester for the request via Patreon. Don't know why I started with the Dreamcast version, but I was already several hours in after I found out the Gamecube edition was more polished, and I guess I just didn't want to start over.

This game absorbed my life after high school. I didn't have a job, or a place to live but crashing at my friends and playing this was all we needed. I'd be on the streets looking for a job. No place to sleep at night. But I would go over to my buds place, take a shower and we would play this all day. Needless to say those days were tuff. But this game holds the fondest memories. So much so that I still have the original Dreamcast version even though it's unplayable. It hold such a bright light to it. This game is more then just a masterpiece to me, it's like a physical embodiment of hope. Thanks for reading. Loved your review.
  • These retro reviews are just right - not too spoilery, but shows enough and explains it all in context so people like me get a feeling for whether an older game is worth my time nowadays.

The strongest endorsement I can give this game is this: When my son was little, he scratched up my Dreamcast disc so badly the game would lock up any time you tried to use any Skill, Spell, or Item (thus rendering the game effectively unplayable). I was so desperate to experience this amazing journey again ( I hadn't played more than the first dungeon since like, 2002) that I paid $60 on Amazon to get a used copy of the GameCube version. Absolutely NO regrets. Skies of Arcadia is just as amazing today as it was back in 2000.

I never clicked a YouTube phone notification so fast!
  • This game was developed by Overworks and is known in Japan as Eternal Arcadia, and it's working title was Project Ares. Much of the elements in the game were borrowed from the Space Pirate Captain Harlock saga.Vyse (as Vyse Inglebard), Fina, and Aika would later appear in the first Valkyria Chronicles game (original and remaster) as playable characters (and they were also in the third game as well).

When Sega is deciding what games people want on Switch, I’d hope this is on the short list.
  • Thank you so much for covering my favorite game of all time, the more people that get exposed to this classic the better!

If there is a Dreamcast Classic in the future, Skies of Arcadia has to be one of the games selected to be preloaded onto the system.

I loved this game on the gamecube. I got into this game and The Beatles at the same time, so my time was spent soaring the skies exploring, while listening to eight days a week and she loves you. Great time

Also worth noting about Skies of Arcadia: First game with dynamic music. The music changes based on how your characters are doing. If they are super injured, the music gives more tension. If you heal and get better, the music feels refreshing. I bought a Dreamcast HDMI kit I have yet to install, and this game is on my list for sure to finally complete.

One of my favorite RPGs ever ! I didn't know that the Panzer Dragoon and Phantasy Star devs got together on this. Awesome. Great video!

Wow, this game looks great. I've always heard it was good, but your video really drives that home. The exploration aspect of it sounds so good, and this is a must play indeed. Thanks for the great, non-spoilery review Drunk.
  • I bought the Gamecube version without knowing that eve back then when it was available it was limited. And while it took me some time to understand it I have very fond memories of it. Not only was one of the few RPGs available...and great but it came into my life when I needed it. So it was very special to me.

One of my most treasured games in my Gamecube library. This game has a charm all its own.
  • @AbstractM0use
Ah great game. I still remember playing it on the DC and knowing when I was about to run into a battle because I could hear the system start whirring.
  • Soundtrack for this game was so good. I remember listening to the songs with my door closed at my college dorm, because I didn't want to be the guy listening to video game soundtracks instead of 50 Cent.
  • @Yuuretsu
I never played this back in the day and was always afraid this game was overhyped. When I was finally lucky enough to find this game for cheap it quickly became one of my favorite jrpg's of all time. From the chara ter designs to the pacing, battle system, ost and setting this game is absolutely a labour of love.

The game that got me into pirates and the age of sail. There are criminally few games like it, and its optimistic, hopeful tone is a breath of fresh air in a world of cynical grimdarkness.
