eh, no. So many things wrong with this. People give and receive gifts for many reasons. Instead of spending so much time and energy trying to come up with tricks, work a bit more, earn a bit more, and fund your kids 529 yourself. Let your family and friends alone. A gift should be appreciated regardless of whether you think there are better ways to use the funds. You don't get to ask for handouts to fund their college, that's your responsibility as their parent. Don't you remember getting gifts as a kid and being joyful about it. Why would you want to take that away from kids?
