I find it funny how in this world where people can summon and turn into huge, city-sized dragon things, the most consistently dangerous object is just real-ass guns

This game was talking about memes before memes were really MEMES
  • 4:34 You forgot to mention that Uzuki actually says that if Neku didn't kill Shiki in the allotted time she gives him, she would kill him herself, which means that Neku was stuck between a do-or-die situation. This is a part of why Shiki forgives Neku because she felt that he basically had no choice in the matter.
  • Kitaniji is probably one of my favorite main antagonists, and it's almost entirely due to that one flashback. It's so obvious that he genuinely loves Shibuya, going as far as immediately accepting the risk of complete erasure if it meant a chance to save Shibuya -something he, technically, succeeds in as well. Furthermore, he is something of a true reversal of Neku, going as far as having design similarities with the protagonist (namely, the headphones). While Neku begins as a stubborn, close-minded and arrogant person who eventually becomes a far more accepting and friendly guy, Kitaniji is simply flipped; showing signs of genuine appreciation for both the city of Shibuya and its people in the flashback to the point of actual love -but is later (earlier, in terms of gameplay) seen treating people more as if they were some kind of pests infesting the city he was tasked with saving. I assume it's sorta accepted at this point, but I remember back when I first beat the game years ago thinking that Kitaniji's entry fee was his "love for Shibuya/its people" or something along those lines, and that this loss of his love of it/them ultimately resulted in his losing the Game. He's not exactly the most fleshed out character I've ever seen, but what is seen is enough for me to look at him and just feel a little bad for him, you know? He was so quick to risk his very existence to save Shibuya, but the Game he played to do so was practically rigged from the start... Again, though, I still feel like he 'won'. He was willing to risk erasure to save Shibuya. He may have been erased, but Shibuya was saved. ...and then Coco happens, I guess. Oh well. Edit: Lolita Bat is the best Pin, don't @ me.

One of the coolest RPGs you've probably never played.
  • Great. I need a refresher of the story before the sequel comes out.

Thank you, Patrons who voted for this title. I have to admit, this one took longer than expected (it's a rather grindy game). So, Technically this is a one-off game, even though a sequel is coming sometime in the future. Before anyone says anything, I am aware I said 777's name as 7-7-7 and not Triple 7 like its supposed to, honest mistake. Also, there is a subtle time I only caught where I say Hanekuma instead of Hanekoma, but the timing of it is almost appropriate, so I left it in (call it a happy accident). Otherwise, I wanted to leave in some side stuff like Makoto's arc, but it was getting long and really wasn't crucial to the central story. Personally, I feel the switch version is fine, and I like some of the remixed tracks more than the original, though I kept the original versions in this video. Please enjoy and look forward to Neo: The World Ends with You. Next RECAPitation will be: Killer7
  • Honestly, ghr final scene between Joshua and Hanakoma on the new day was intresting, especially for Joshua, because when he says it's doesn't matter that Neku has died, he days it like he doesn't really believe it, and secondly, it directly contradict his actions as he was clearly rushing to where Neku and Beat were, which could be read as him attempting to save Neku. Joshua is great as a character because you can never truly tell what's going on with him, but it was a nice character touch because although he says he doesn't care about Neku his actions clearly state otherwise and you can tell ots a point of conflict for him.

I know the game is being recapped here but the background music is too damn catchy to pay attention.
  • TWEWY Is one of my favorite games. I have yet to actually play the Switch version but that extra story and the secret reports are definitely interesting. I'm super excited for the next game.

I've played thousands of games in my day ranging from Zelda to The Last Of Us to The Witcher and I can safely say this is my favorite game of all time. If you've never played it, please do. I don't think a game has ever genuinely made me crack up at times or sick to my stomach in tears or tensed me up for antagonist encounters like this. You literally feel Neku's pain and it's crazy watching him grow.

I played this when I was like 13 on the ds and thought the game was really long, decided to replay it again on an emulator and was surprised that it was actually so short, I just didn't know how the entire battle system works so it took me longer back then. Glad that they decided to make a sequel on my favorite ds game of all time.
  • In short Joshua put Neku through a shit ton of traumatic stuff because he didn't want to branch out to people, while in reality it's a completely different story you absolutely can't trust anyone ever.
