The Cat in the Hat is a Little Abstract

This talk discusses why and how mathematicians consider abstract objects in mathematics. To do this, we show how to construct groups , rings, and vector spaces from arithmetic in the real numbers and beyond.

We then discuss how even then, there are still some similarities, which allow us to abstractify again and introduce category theory. We use the first isomorphism theorem as a springboard to motivate category theory.
