I wouldn't call it a Golden Age, because the Golden Age, Silver Age, Bronze Age, and Renaissance have already happened. This is more like...Reconstruction.

Im still surprised that it took fighting game companies over 10 years since the realease of SF4 back in 2009 to finally make their games netcode decent enough to play anybody in the world with crossplay. Great editing too.

Insane you skipped SNK more important to fighting game history than Mortal Kombat..

The Golden Age was in the early to mid '90s when you had major franchises establishing themselves and every other developer was trying their hand at making a fighter. The Silver Age was around the late '90s and early '00s when you started to see pinnacles and series staples emerge like 3rd Strike, T3 & Tag, KoF98, etc. Next you would have the revival era that was ushered in after SFIV, with BlazBlue carrying ArcSys via the arcades in Japan, NRS returning to form, and a slew of other big names like KI, GG, and MvC making comebacks. If you want to give this current generation of fighters a moniker, then I'd call it something like the "Rollback Era." May the good times and stable connections keep on rolling.
  • The disrespect to SNK was painful to watch.

I’m proud everyone survived the dark ages it was tough

God i missed seeing videos just talking about how much people enjoy fighting games.

This isn't the Golden Age, because the real Golden Age (1991-96) was so radically different that it's tough to explain. Imagine arcade fighting games at gas stations, laundromats, grocery stores, restaurants... almost anywhere you see vending machines today. Fighting games were the crown jewel of any game console. Now they are an afterthought that don't even make it into the top 20 of console sales. Golden Age is 1991-96, Dark Age is 2002-07, Renaissance is 2008-14. We're probably in the Silver Age now.

magnificent excellent beautiful gorgeous video keep up the great work boss
  • golden age is the 90s, everyone and their grandma were standing in line for their turn on a street fighter 2 cabinet

Fighting Games are extremely fun; now we need people to stop bitching about DLC, they really don't have to buy, and things will be absolutely beautiful.
  • If I had a nickel for every time an even numbered Street Fighter game led to or coincided with a new great age of the fighting game genre, I’d have three nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird it happened thrice.

As someone who’s getting into the FGC I’d have to agree, but I have a feeling people who have more experience than me probably won’t.
  • @cryokinesis420
The fact that MK1 wasn't included in this video cracks me up
  • @K7TZ
The music is telling me we're still missing persona 5 arena

A Golden Age? I think we are in a good era of fighting games but a golden age is a bit hyperbolic. There is some new ideas coming out from this era that might lead to something bigger down the road but as of right now? I just can't co-sign on this being any more than a solid good era.

Seeing all these people in the comment section having an aneurism because of your opinion is really funny and slightly depressing. I wish people could just respect one another’s opinions but that’s just asking too much.

Had a lot of fun with SF6 and T8 and recently got Strive on the Steam sale, it's definitely a great time to have a fighting game addiction now I just need DOA and VF to be back/good again and I'll be completely satisfied
  • @YLWOLFIE
My issue is picking a main game. I like everything but i only have time for one and i have no idea what to pick
