Identifying hidden gems on a console that is something of a hidden gem in itself is an interesting conundrum. With the possible exceptions of Sega Rally, Virtua Fighter, and Daytona USA, pretty much every highly-rated Saturn game could be considered obscure in the bigger picture. So, set aside Guardian Heroes, forget about Panzer Dragoon Saga, and let's take a REALLY deep dive into the Saturn's best kept secrets of all. Here are 10 Hidden Video Game Gems For The Sega Saturn!

The PS2 was so good it managed to break the space-time continuum and kill its rival before it's dad did.
  • My youngest brother got a Saturn for his birthday shortly after it ended. You could get it cheap at FuncoLand (now Game Stop) so it was easy to for him to get games since they were all going for cheap. He actually had Mr. Bones and Powerslave. He still swears that Mr. Bones is brilliant for its unique story used to cobble together a series platforming and minigames. Considering there are levels where you hit guitar riffs to convent an army of skeletons to your side, a one where you had to hit buttons in the right order to tell jokes in order to win a boss fight, and a level where you are a skull and spinal cord bouncing on shards of glass in the center of the universe as the soundtrack is a guy explaining the meaning of "The Blues" I would say it was pretty ambitious for its time.
  • I got Dark Savior after mistaking it for Vampire Savior, and BOY, I didn't know what I was in for. The weirdest part about the divergent storyline is that it unfolds somewhat organically as the player's skill level increases. So you naturally get the whole story as you play and replay the game. And GOD, I love Dragon Force. Cleared all the kingdoms one grand summer in my youth. The Sega Saturn feels to me like the first time quality was cast aside for novelty: these 2D graphics still hold up rather well today, while a lot of "cutting-edge for the time" 3D looks like crap.
  • Mr. Bones was and still is an underrated masterpiece, i probably would've given it a better placing than 9th tbh.

You know TripleJump is good source for gaming content when they show a PS2 as the competitor to the Saturn and N64...

If Mr. Bones were remastered, it would get universal acclaim. It was that good. I used to love that game. Had 3 Dirty dwarfs as well. Another great game.
  • Loved the reference to the CBBC show Funnybones - not thought about that show for decades.
  • I Know Sega Saturn Was Outclassed By Playstation but it had superior versions XMen Children Of The Atom Marvel Superheroes XMen Vs Street Fighter and Marvel Vs Street Fighter so a W for Sega

Exhumed is still talked about by me and my Mum, her, my Dad and I used to play it for hours when I was a kid. Thanks lads.
  • @SinkFlaMain
I loved Baku Baku. The only game I remember my mom would actually play extensively back when she was alive. Still have good memories with it for that alone.
  • My best friend and I would RENT a saturn once a month and play Worms all weekend. Never knew anyone who owned one though.

To me, Sega Saturn is iconic. Good to see Dark Savior mentioned. Finished it completely and just wanted more. The themes and setup could be repurposed today for something amazing. Only flaw are the worst minecart levels know to man.
  • @Savitor
Great list... Honorable Mention: Herc's Adventures 👍🎮
  • Thank you for this video, I am a Sega Kid to the core and I have been really enjoying your channel lately.
  • Mr. Bones!!! Such a weird and original video game. I did a really cringe review of it back in the day on my channel. I'd say it's a better memory than reality.
  • @RyuzakiTaiyou
Now lets remake all of those, especially Dark Saviour and Dragon Force. Those look like the most fun.

I'd like to suggest a ten games "where the second controller lets your buddy contribute" list idea. So Sonic 2, where Tails was playable, but also inconsequential. Duck Hunt, where the second controller controlled the ducks. Fifa 95, where the second controller did crowd noises. That kinda of thing.

It's surely a flop, but you know you showed 2000's PS2 while talking about how PSONE took down Saturn in 1994?
