There finally appears to be a resolution in a fight between Brevard County and a homeowner who built a man cave in his backyard with shipping containers.

now that lady can report him for staying in the man cave too late lol
  • “No one will use it between 10-6” WTF try to police that. “Sir, it’s past 10 pm and you’re still in the man cave. Time to go to bed”
  • Nothing says Florida Man quite like a Double Decker Shipping Container Man Cave 😂😂😂

It's a man cave with rules for a teenager. Surprised they didn't tell him he has to maintain good grades too.

And this is why we fought for freedom what a joke🤮

Can't use between 10pm and 6am with no toilet. That won't happen. They will be back in court.

I can build anything I want in, over, and under my property in the Ozarks because we don't have building codes in my rural county. They will enforce the heck out of your agricultural endeavors if you let them. With that said, I would never build a double-decker shipping container man-boy fort above ground. It's too hot!

While the law is clear, it's to invasive. Just wrap it in those things they put on cars. No one in there from 10-6amThat, is when I am the deepest in my man cave.
  • This is why I prefer to live in an unincorporated area... no ridiculous draconian city ordinances,... just state law, and practically zero code enforcement.
  • This is a horrific idea. I am an engineer for Maersk, and it is known that shipping containers rust over time, and are not meant for living conditions, at least for a long term.

That’s not his fail if he was granted permission! The county should allow it for compensation for its mistakes!!
  • You can't go in your property after 10pm that is being used as a man cave??? Maybe he should pay taxes May - Dec

I'm middle of the road on this one. Indiatlantic, the town in Brevard County where this is occurring, is a town on a narrow stretch of Merritt Island. This area is susceptible to hurricanes and densely populated. Double stacked containers could be quite an issue with wind and flooding during a hurricane. They could have a very serious impact on other properties that are in the area if they were to get loose during a storm. I would suspect that is the purpose of the "No Double Stack Containers" in that area. At the same time, he applied for, paid for, and was granted a permit. He did everything he was supposed to. Sounds like the neighbors didn't do their due diligence on the public comment of the permit process and the county granted the permit.

I don't understand. People will say Government over reaches, spends to much, makes to many stupid laws, but will be the first in line yelling at the government to do something to their neighbor. I am of the belief, that if you own something, NO ONE should be able to tell you, you can or cannot do something with what you own, excluding harming others and their property. Put simply no one should have to ask the government for permission for 99 percent of anything.
