With the new Kong vs Godzilla about to release, I thought I'd take this opportunity to exert my huge Godzilla fandom, to take a look at the original 1962 King Kong vs Godzilla, in all of it's absurd, rubber suit fighting glory!

  • Human: “Kong is a thinking animal. His brain is considerably larger...” Kong: Knocks himself out, by combat rolling (for no reason) into a rock
  • The final battle in Godzilla vs. Kong 1962 in a nutshell: This is about two drunk guys fighting at the parking lot after the costume party.

Fun fact: Godzilla's blue color is actually based on real science. They even name it in this movie. Cherenkov radiation. When particles are so supercharged with energy that they move faster than light through a medium (Nothing can go faster than light in a vacuum. Mediums are fair game.) they produce an creepy blue glow. In fact most nuclear reactors glow with this same brilliant blue light.

Fun fact: With over 12,550,000 tickets sold, this remains the highest attended Godzilla film in Japan. It also remains as one of the most attended films in the history of the Japanese box office and ranks 13th overall in terms of all time box-office admissions.

I am glad that you acknowledged how the film was intended essentially as a satirical comedy. Since the American version removed a lot of the satire and replaced it with reporting scenes so dry they make the Atacama desert jealous, I think a lot of people have a harder time giving into the goofy nature. In fact, watching the Japanese version where before Godzilla and Kong even meet they are fighting for media coverage with people even betting on them despite the damage, comparing that to the sheer amount of similar things in crossover battles today is freaking hilarious. That also goes for comparing it to the rest of the Godzilla series. Only 3 movies in and the big Dinosaur was already parodying himself, which only shows that there was a method to their madness. It's almost like Toho was just like "Yeah, our nuclear allegory Dinosaur is now having a pro wrestling match with a giant alcoholic Monkey with a shock fetish and it's gonna end up being the highest grossing Godzilla movie ever what do you expect?". Does make it kinda ironic you chose to watch the English dub cuz it was funnier when in this case I would say it's the opposite for this movie.

For the ending I think once both monsters fell into the water Kong went "F- this I"m done' and moved to the surface to swim home. Meanwhile Godzilla is flipping him off underwater saying 'You better run. This is my territory!"
  • My canon for King Kong VS Godzilla: After they fell into the ocean, Godzilla and Kong hugged it out and they both left in the end

Comedy will never surpass kong shoving a tree down godzilla's throat

"I would rather entertain people and hope they learned something, than teach them a lesson and hope they were entertained." - Walt Disney I think this quote is what most movies should aspire to be.

In the Japanese cut, the characters are fully aware of Godzilla’s existence and even mention that there’s a in-universe movie about Godzilla.

The shot of Kong doing a combat roll and faceplanting into a boulder will always make me smile.

Godzilla and King Kong wrestling in bodysuits is just as good fifty years ago as it'll probably be in a week
  • @TarboGreatApe
They honored the tree scene in the new movie. My life is complete.
  • For the sake of my sanity, I'm just gonna assume that the moment they plunged into the sea, they had an offscreen epiphany and subsequent discussion abt the stupidity of the events that transpired between them and decided to come to a truce and just go home. Godzilla then swam off to his underwater abode and Kong surfaced to swim back to his island.

Kong floating down to Godzilla on a bunch of balloons: HIYA, GOJI!
  • @KyleRDent
Picturing a tiny King Kong slowly take down Godzilla is giving me Shadow of the Colossus flashbacks.

This oddly enough used to be one of my favorite Godzilla movies growing up. I'd rent this every other weekend from Blockbuster and the trick to avoiding my disappointment towards the ending was to turn it off before Kong broke out of the water so my little baby brain could say "Nope. Godzilla won!"

The Zilla cartoon definitely deserves coverage. The creators managed to make a fine purse out of Roland Emmerich's ear.
